I have friends who applied in January who were admitted in January, friends who applied in September who were admitted in December, and friends who applied in September who were admitted in April.

TLS wisdom of "applying an extra day early = +1% chance of getting in" doesn't exactly apply at Stanford (and Yale for that matter, but I don't have any anecdotal evidence to back that up). Sure, you might hear a decision earlier, but I do not think that your chances of admission are affected. Apply when you have your app put together correctly–a stronger app is better than an earlier app.
Yale has told multiple sites/blogs/important people, etc. that they attempt to view all applications within a certain time frame and thus attempt to minimize any "rolling admissions advantage". However, I haven't necessarily heard the same about Stanford admissions.

I do agree that a few extra days won't provide you with a significant advantage if your application is not as ready as you would like it to be.

Woohoo! A month after I submitted, the Dean's cert finally went through and my status now says "your file has been submitted for review."

Celebrated by checking out this dreamy weather forecast... http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/P ... A+USCA0830

Submitted 11/15, complete and submitted for review 11/21.

Chuffed my university managed to sort out the dean's certification. Now we wait. And dream.

Yale makes it pretty clear timing shouldn't matter, and Stanford doesn't talk much about timing at all. My opinions are based off watching last cycle on TLS/LSN, and then talking with SLS students at ASW and at school this fall. No real statistics, just a nice chunk of anecdotal evidence. It is really easy to forget a world of law school students applicants exists outside of TLS, and that all the "rules" are not necessarily always true.

I didn't. I think it's generally the case that there's no real reason to write 'Why X' essays to YHS as the reasons you'd want to go there are pretty self-evident. If you have a really unique reason for wanting to go to Stanford, I guess it couldn't hurt, but generally, it probably doesn't serve much of a point.

Good luck to all. Once decisions start rolling in, if you have any questions about Stanford or would like to know why it is vastly superior to its peer schools, feel free to ask here or shoot me a PM.

I did not either. It seemed to be apparent why I wanted to go there based on my other application materials.

It looks like last year decisions started on 12-08. So we still have about a week of waiting, at least!

Agreed.

Will the first decisions definitely be from the early-Sept. applicants, or do all of us UR stand an equal chance? I only went UR a few weeks ago, but here is to hoping!

If you look at LSN from last year looks like they accepted people complete between 9-22 and 10-21 on 12-08.

Yeah after I posted this I went over there and realized that my question was unnecessary, thanks though! People with my UR date heard back only a week later, so that's good news too :)

Stanford likes tailored applications so I put some Stanford-specific info in my PS. Like you I figured it couldn't hurt. *fingers crossed* it works out well.

I did the same, especially as there were specific programs I really was attracted to and fit in well with my background/goals!

I believe the past few years calls began coming in the week before SLS finals. Finals this year are starting 12/9 so it could be anytime next week!

Well, you must fill out a form that includes you and and your parents' information and then have them sign it. If they determine that you are in fact needy, they'll grant it. Otherwise, not so much.

I qualified for an LSAC fee-waiver but not one from Stanford. So....best of luck.

I was told that my dean's certificate was mailed in over two weeks ago by my student affairs office, but my application still shows it as missing... think it would be better to wait it out for a few more days, call them directly, or ask my dean to call and verify that they received it?

I sent an e-mail three days after my undergrad sent it (via e-mail) because it had not posted on the checker. They replied within a couple of hours, and it was updated that same day. It was easier for me because I knew that they had received it, since I was CC'd on the e-mail from my undergrad.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
