Got bored did some LSN mining

Up until this point in 2010/2011 the data is as follow (not including those that stayed pending through the entire 2010 cycle)

Total Complete Apps 2010:40
Total Complete Apps 2011: 31

Median Applicant GPA at this point 2010: 3.87
Median Applicant GPA at this point 2011: 3.9 (Data only in tenths this round)

Median Applicant LSAT at this point 2010: 172
Median Applicant LSAT at this point 2011: 171

Accepted of those applied before today last year: 7 of 40


Thought people might be interested. Based on this tiny amount of data it looks like apps are down and among those apps numbers are down a bit too.

Thought people might be interested. Based on this tiny amount of data it looks like apps are down and among those apps numbers are down a bit too.

This is great...if the same pattern held to Harvard, Columbia, and Chicago, we might assume that numbers were at least slightly down. It doesn't seem likely that internet usage would be explanation for a drop that significant (though its possible). Can we determine whether LSN has grown in activity progressively every year, even last year when we know for certain that apps dropped? If participation grew last year despite the drop in apps, then we could def be reasonably assured these numbers reflect something....

Nice work! How did you search LSN based on date for last year? I can't find a way to filter out only those who applied by this date last year..

Great work. I'm not even applying to Stanford, but I'm glad I popped in here. Hopefully this trend holds for other T14 schools as well...

Wow. I think I figured out how to do this for Harvard and it seems: this year, 41 completed apps so far. Last year at this time: 57. Definitely looks like a drop in apps.

Might be that some people only put it up after they get their JR1's. Don't think this is quite as telling as it seems on its face. If I didn't know about LSN beforehand, the JR1 email would've certainly gotten me pretty giddy and show-off-y.

Also, fine, if everyone else has, I'll change me avatar too...

True, it could be that alot of people hide their profiles until after the cycle is over.

But the Stanford numbers are somewhat telling, even though it's a very small sample. Don't give up hope!

Well it could be worse anyhow. Imagine if you get rejected from everywhere in a lower app year. That would be discouraging.

Like I said in my PM, I do know people who've gotten in off their softs. I would be the last one to discourage anyone from giving it a go.

Interesting statistics. I'm not sure how much we can read into those numbers, but it is, at the very least, slightly encouraging.

New blog post if anyone wants to check it out - Dean talks about being savvy regarding the pressure on scholarships and other things from law schools. Advising to download the code of conduct for law school adcoms - interesting she mentions the date by which a school can not ask you to accept/reject an offer. I feel like it was before the offer I already got is supposed to be accepted or lost. I'll need to check into that...

I just want to say that their freaking fee waiver application is bogus.

The need for parental information (even if you're old, and pay your own bills, etc.) I called today and asked if I really needed my parents' information (as I have one parent who I no longer speak to) and she said yes, or else it would be thrown out. So, I have no idea what to do, unless I lie. Which, would be bad.

@Schola - not Stanford, don't worry lol

@lawschoolproject - Unfortunately for us non-trads, I've heard that is the way all fin aid for law school's work. If you're going to need it most likely, you might as well get it now. I'm not up-to-date on these things, but I think my Harvard friend said it works on some sort of sliding scale based on your age and it isn't a non-factor until like 30+ Not sure if that is accurate, but before you give up, you might want to find out if you are going to need the info anyhow later on KWIM? I thought she said at 28, they took into account 20% of her parent's income and it was a real pain because they were small business owners who aren't great about that sort of thing and it was just plain awkward.

Yeah, it's just really inconvenient and not a proper way to assess my ability to pay at all if my parents' information is considered. But, that's a good point about financial aid. I'm hoping that since I've had some other factors in my life that most schools will consider me independent, though.
