I was joking. Trying to parody the typical TLS prediction hysteria. Clearly failed. :)

I sent it by email and received a nice email back saying that they appreciated my dedicated interest in Stanford...so there's that.

They just told me that they would add the letter to my application. GUYS, DOES THIS MEAN DEFINITE DING ON THE WAY????

...wut?

He's being sarcastic.

*chill pill*

In a forum such as TLS, one would have to make a stronger effort at overstating unwarranted panic in order to indicate clearly that it's a joke...

If that was really happening to you with the Stanford status checker, it would be something to talk about.

My numbers are strong (3.93/177), and I'm in at HLS, but SLS would definitely be my number one choice. Should I just forget about SLS? I'm really kicking myself. My two recommenders wrote me great LORs, but they were both overwhelmed with special projects and soooo slow to get even my standards LORs ready that I figured I'd be in bad shape if I had to wait for them to get the Stanford-focused letters ready.

Why is SLS>HLS for you?

Size, ease of dual degree, reports from people I know at both, etc. Location is a bonus. I should be clear that SLS would be my number one choice over the schools I've already been accepted to. I'm not sure what I would do with a YLS acceptance. They're 1a and 1b for me right now. Unfortunately the affection has not been returned by either at this point. :( Which leads me to another question...

How did you guys go about stating your level of interest in SLS in your LOCI?

I don't want to lie and say that SLS is far and away my number one choice if that's not the case. I don't have a clear top choice. I strongly favor SLS and YLS over all others, but I couldn't make a pick before visiting them both...if I were somehow lucky enough for that to become an option.

Would it ultimately do more harm than good to say something along the lines of SLS being one of my top choices/most favored schools? That sounds presumptuous to my ears. But I also don't want to be insincere and proclaim SLS my clear top choice -- and I'm sure Dean Deal reads that line 50 times a day as it is. Thoughts on how folks generally handle this?

i had the same dilemma and opted to err on the side of caution and leave it out. i feel like sls is awesome enough that u don't really need to say it's #1 or make a comparative statement. good luck!

Honestly, I don't get why people are sending it this late in the game, but whatevs. Dean Deal is probably like, "Seriously? End of March?"

I told them I would be there if I was admitted because it is the truth.

Also, assuming this SLS rollercoaster ride doesn't work out, where are other people planning on going? UVA here.

It seems like that would be the most appropriate time to send it, as opposed to a month after applying, am I wrong?

Yea prob shouldn't say that, but either way the letter should be more about you and not why you want to go to SLS. Obviously everyone wants to be admitted. Earlier in the thread it has also been stated from the SLS admissions blog that LOCI should add something new to the application, and not just express an interest... obviously we are interested. So maybe if there is nothing new then the LOCI should not be sent, but this is not my decision obviously.

I would think around three months after applying would've been best, but only if you applied early in the cycle. Of course you're still interested if you applied in late January. On the other hand, if you applied in October your cycle could've played out already and Stanford has no idea if you still care.
