At this point in guessing we should all start hoping something happens tomorrow.

Can someone please tell me, does everyone accepted regardless of timing have the same chance of receiving financial aid?
Given that fin aid is only need based at stanny, is there any way to reasonably predict what you might receive.

As far as I know (the SLS website doesn't lead me to believe anything else, and peer schools are definitely this way), the only consideration is need - not when you're accepted.admisionquestion wrote:Can someone please tell me, does everyone accepted regardless of timing have the same chance of receiving financial aid?

Whether you can predict the amount you're likely to receive is doubtful. Are you in at HLS? Did they give a grant? The general consensus seems to be that S is more generous with its awards, so you could reasonably assume you'll get more, if you happen to be accepted.

I'd rather wait forever and get accepted than not.neuroticjew wrote:

Re: Stanford c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Hi all, super new to the lingo 'round here but from what I can gather I was "DLS"-ed at around 5 yesterday (Tuesday). I'm 167/3.55 with 3.95 at my degree granting university, double major (polisci+math, long story), US Navy vet, DC internship with a US Rep, and other "softs" which I think are pretty good. A few questions:
What's ASW? What are other acronyms I should know?
Is it 100% unprecedented to be accepted via DLS?
How long does the letter take to get here? Standard postage?
Some other info to round out my profile, I actually only applied to Stanford this cycle because I was planning on a gap year but applied to my #1 just in case. Also I applied super late, like 1/29 I think.

Got another bonehead question: I was reading Dean Deal's blog the other day and it said she was raised in Waimea, HI (pop~4000, small town near Kona). Well I lived in HI and my roommate was from Waimea and I wrote a quick email to the admissions people about the Thanksgiving I spent with my roommate's family and what a cool place it is. And now I'm DLSd.
Poll: Good idea? Didn't matter? Bonehead idea? Thx y'all rock.

out of curiosity, if your file is under review, does it actually say "under review" in the status line? does "your file has been submitted for review" mean something different?

ASW means Admitted Student Weekend, which for Stanford is being held this weekend.musicjunkie701 wrote:What's ASW? What are other acronyms I should know?

If you're accepted you get called. Recently both waitlists and rejections have been coming via DLS.
Yes, standard postage.
They both mean the same thing, and that's all your status will say until you get a decision.thereshegoes wrote:out of curiosity, if your file is under review, does it actually say "under review" in the status line? does "your file has been submitted for review" mean something different?

What could possibly be going on over there? Do we think they'll let anyone in today?

Is it possible they're waiting until after the ASW for people to commit/withdraw, so they have a better idea of what the class is going to look like? They seem to really care about the actual composition of the class, not just the size, so I wonder if they take the time to look at who has accepted a place thus far before deciding on the rest of us.

This makes a lot of sense. It really seems like we might be waiting then till the end of the month, or even into May after the deposit deadline.erikjc wrote:Is it possible they're waiting until after the ASW for people to commit/withdraw, so they have a better idea of what the class is going to look like?
