lol. I got the phone calls, the postcards, the letters, and the emails. If my ex-boyfriend was this persistent I'd put a restraining order against him.

Hahaha oh WAIT..it was MSU ! I thought it was extremely strange that Michigan would be doing that. And you're right Michigan State is way too persistent...I keep getting e-mails, mail, and now phone calls...eesh.

Oh well, would have been nice, no? haha

Just got a rather nice e-mail from Dean Z (a form email but with some nice 'me' specific touches) encouraging me to contact her if I had any questions. Assuming others received this?

Was it telling you that your app was complete and giving you a status checker? I'm thinking these should start rolling out soon for those that applied the first few days.

Nope. No mention of my application status. The subject just said "Michigan Law application follow-up".

Yeah, I got the same one. (I haven't even submitted my app yet.)

That seems odd if you haven't submitted yet! What would she write in it, and why?

Well, I didn't mean to say it was a huge deal, just a minor 'woops'. The world will not end, this I know.

Dear (Name),
A few weeks ago, I sent you a letter, viewbook, and fee waiver, encouraging you to apply to the University of Michigan Law School because your strong academic credentials suggest you’re someone who, from our point of view, might well be a good fit here. I am following up briefly now just to focus a bit on your point of view.
In your LSAC registration, you indicated a particular interest in international law. Michigan Law has long been a leader in international law, with clinics, programs, and curricular offerings that run the full spectrum from international business law to refugee and asylum law. The faculty’s legal expertise includes the fields of international tax, investment and trade, environmental, asylum and refugee, and human rights law, and covers the world’s major economies outside the United States, including China, India, Japan, and the European Union. I encourage you to spend some time in the international law area of our website, where you will find:
· Comprehensive information about Michigan’s wealth of international opportunities, all in one place, with easy-to-use navigation links,
· Information about student activities relating to international law,
· A list of faculty involved with international scholarship and activities,
· A course map detailing all the Law School’s international curricular offerings, as well as in-depth information on a variety of programs focused on particular geographic regions and practice areas, and
· Video interviews with faculty and with students planning careers in international law.
I hope you will spend a few minutes exploring all that Michigan Law has to offer. For detailed information about how to apply, please visit our website. And in the event you did not receive our initial mailing and fee waiver, rest assured that if you apply via LSAC, you should be automatically recognized as a fee waiver recipient; if through some glitch you aren’t, please select the option to “pay the school directly,” and contact us at law.jd.admissions@umich.edu so we can be sure everything goes smoothly on this end. If you would like to apply by a different method, please contact us for further instructions. And if you’ve already applied—fantastic. I’m delighted.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office by email or phone. We’d be happy to put you in touch with a current law student interested in international law, and we’d love to have the chance to talk with you ourselves.

This was received after I got the unsolicited fee waiver by mail with the viewbook. I'm working on my Michigan app on LSAC now, but haven't submitted it or corresponded with their admissions office in any way. I'm not a particularly competitive applicant numbers-wise either.

Wow, they are always going the extra distance. Makes sense for people who have a particular field of interest to get these more targeted emails about what Michigan offers them. TFS

Got an email saying they received my app and that the status checker would be sent out in 3-4 weeks.

Just a heads up. Michigan's status checker is worse than useless. Go and look through last years thread. They purposefully have any change to it happen a couple days late so you get the news in the mail first.

Eventually you will all be constantly checking to see if you can get into the admitted students website. Just so you know, they CAN see who is trying to get into the admitted students website. I think Dean Z made a blog post about that a couple years ago.

Everything else about Michigan is awesome. Their status checker/admitted students website is less than awesome.

Just a heads up! :D

God forbid you reveal your desire to get into Michigan by continually trying to access the admitted students website. That's clear grounds for rejection.

I can't find it, but it was funny (as is almost everything on the A2Z blog). I think it was more about the people who look mildly insane as they try to get access 5 times a day.

I just want to warn you that while status checkers seem like a good idea, they are a gateway drug to trying to generate admitted student website passwords.

5 times a day = insanity? I must have seriously lost my perspective at some point in this process lol.

Working on my dissertation is perhaps the most constructive (but not the most conducive to my sanity) way to pass the time waiting to hear back from these schools. So boring. It begs multiple status checker attempts to break up the monotony.

You guys are nuts. Most schools I haven't checked the status since the initial email.
