This, too. From the T14 cities, only Charlottesville can compete with Michigan when it comes to CoL.

When you combine that with the generous scholarships they've been giving, Michigan has to rank up there for a lot of us.

That is a really appealing factor for Michigan to me :S

Yes the rep yesterday said that it would be closed next year but they will be renting out an entire apartment complex.

For real. I've been trying to calculate the costs of attending different T-14 schools with my specific financial situation and Michigan comes out at second after UVA.

Holy crap that's awesome.

Seriously, though, the more I hear about Michigan the more I love it. It went from a school I was ambivalent about applying to and now it's a top choice. Credit to Dean Z, she deserves it.

I'll be watching closely to see what they replace it with because the LC is kind of the collegial atmosphere that they are selling embodied in a building and the experience would probably be different without at least the option.

Hey 2014,

I'm a current 1L who is not living in the lawyer's club. I can tell you that the collegial atmosphere most definitely extends beyond the walls of the lawyers club. Everyone is interested in helping you out and working together. We all tend to study in the same places at the same times whether we live in the LC or off-campus.

The new commons has become remarkably central to campus life in the three weeks since it opened. Most people spend most of their time there.

I wouldn't let the lack of an LC next semester dissuade you from coming to Michigan.

I wonder when they're gonna send info on the space they decided on. I'm a bit of a housing gunner, and want to start contacting places as soon as it becomes October. At least in October I won't come off as a complete lunatic. :?

I found a place that I like already - cheap, near the LS, 1 bedroom, takes pets - so it would take one helluva space to get me to abandon my kitty. (More for my sake than his, he would probably be happier staying with my parents because he's able to hunt and climb a lot here, probably not so much in A2.) But I'm always willing to listen to any options; I just hope they do a reveal soon.

I'm visiting Michigan in early November (like the 3rd I think), so if you want any first hand details on any specific places you're looking at, I'd be more than welcome to help.

Thanks Ocho! Might take you up on that. Are you planning to go to ASW as well?

I guess I haven't really thought about that as much as I should have. I kind of prioritized this early visit to get a jump on housing and I didn't really consider whether or not I'll be able to afford another trip out there. Hopefully it'll work out, I'm stoked to meet my new classmates.

If anyone has questions about specific locations in AA and how that'd relate to the school I can probably help. It's been like five years since I actually did a housing search in town though. I moved straight from dorms freshman year to a house that I then stayed in for three years. That housing search was kind of absurd because we were basically told that we needed to sign our lease really early in order to get anything good. And by early, I mean like 6-8 months prior. I think apartments are different, and if I remember right they passed some laws or something that made the housing market less stupid. I do know that unless you're looking for something especially nice, if you're paying near or >$1000/mo for a 1 or 2 bedroom you're probably doing it wrong.

So yeah. tl;dr I can answer location questions and possibly stuff about specific apartments, but I might not be up on market specifics :)

Michigan will be the next school to offer RD admissions around the first week of November right? So we can take October off from anxiety and just check back in 4 weeks from now?

That sounds about right to me, assuming of course that history repeats itself.

Sweet! I can't wait. October is going to be a llllllong month.

I have it like this (so I remember in a month): Michigan (early Nov-mid-Nov first round), Harvard (mid-Nov for JR1/JR2 first round then decisions just before Thanksgiving), Stanford (second week in Dec), Yale (early/mid-Dec first round of just auto-admits), Chicago (first week back in Jan, but with the earlier app submission date it could be a tad earlier this year). I didn't apply anywhere else, so I'm not sure how Columbia, NYU, and Penn fit into that mix (or UVA since I already heard).

Michigan's viewbook says they encourage applicants to submit 3 LORs despite the fact that they only require one. I have 2 LORs already submitted to LSAC, with a third coming in probably 2 weeks or so. Any opinions on whether or not I'm better off waiting for the 3rd or going ahead and submitting this weekend?
I feel like I'm on the border numbers-wise.

Either way you'd be in before the October LSAT takers, so I'd wait.

I am in a very similar situation. When I called the admissions office, the woman I talked to assured me that it was better to submit early and then have the final letter sent to the school once it's written...take that for what it's worth, but I hope she's right because I listened to her advice :?

Yesterday, my dreams of going to Michigan, because of the possibility of a 174+ score, died. Bye, thread. :(

Hey guys... today I got a phone call from a Michigan law student saying that I was a strong candidate for scholarships and asking if I had any questions about the school. Has anyone else gotten this? Does it really mean anything?

Thanks!
