By status checker, you mean the username and password the school emails you, correct?
I've applied to 16 schools and only have 2 usernames and passwords... the rest haven't emailed me but they do say complete on LSAC.org

Got in just before Christmas and Scholarship offer appeared today under mail and money on the ASW! So excited cause I really like Michigan. It seems like these scholarships are for three years looking at LSN and reading back through this thread but it only shows an award for 2013. Anybody else had this experience that can allay my neurosis?
Good luck to everyone still waiting!

No one can know that.
But I am a fellow 12/7er who didn't get in today.
True. My REAL question was: was this the first day that 12/7ers got in?
I was 12/7 and in 12/28. <25th percentile GPA, >75th LSAT.

Got this too. Pretty shocked even for $10K. I believe this is per year.

Thank you! Michigan's the first school to give me any money, but I guess it's still relatively early in the cycle?

Yea, definitely still early in the cycle. The only t14's giving scholarship money upfront are UVA and Michigan. The others are either sending out scholarship invitations or waiting until the coming weeks/months and/or the FAFSA (among other forms) to give out money.

URM is still a boost at Michigan.
ETA: For anyone who's interested, pull up the LSN graphs. Tell me what those stray green dots in the lower GPA/LSAT areas say. I know it's a self-selected sample, but it clearly shows that there is a URM boost and it is important in Michigan.
That person was initially refuted until they came with the statute. Also, FWIW, I actually did talk to Dean Z about this some time ago and she said they're not allowed to take race into account when making admissions decisions. I doubt she would've said that if it weren't true given that she's extremely forthcoming.

That's interesting. I'm wondering if they base some of those decisions off of the applicant's "story" or "overcoming adversity" when admitting candidates that are well below median but are otherwise URM. I mean, look at the entire lefthand and lower sides of the admits on the LSN graphs. They're almost universally URM.
They may not take race into account directly, and I don't think they should, but I think it's pretty clear that no matter how they decide to word it that there is a URM boost.
Unless there is some other criteria that the admitted URMs show that I'm missing, which could be the case.

But did she say that they abide by this? It may seem to follow from that statement that they do, but given the data (and how difficult it would be to monitor and enforce the injunction) I'm inclined to

I dont really want to get into the middle of this as I am sure I have no idea. But I did want to say that the sad reality in this country is that URMs are often the most socio-economically depressed, and that could be something they are "allowed" to take into account.
but what do I know??

It certainly could be a large factor!

This. And let's not turn this into a URM debate. I rather like this thread.

This, I agree with. URM are more likely to submit the diversity essay, etc... and that probably does give them a boost.

Yeah, that doesn't have to happen. The only thing I was trying to do was detract from the fact that it seems like every time someone gets in with a less than stellar GPA it becomes a "but they're an URM" conversation. That seems unfair since those people could also have incredible softs.
Heck, I'm not a URM, I have a subpar LSAT and I'm in. I believe it had to do with softs but what do I know? If TLS is to be believed it was just some sort of a fluke and they must have thought I was a URM.

Any guesses as to what we can expect from UMich this week? Another wave of admits or just a trickle?
Are we approaching the time when we should start worrying about deferrals?

Just wanted to check in. Submitted late September and in last week. Most likely I'll be heading to Michigan this fall. 166/closer to 3.0 than 3.5. Hope to see some of you there.
