Clicked around on the ASW, under Mail & Money / Admissions Communications it now says "Dean's Scholarship Award Letter" sent 11/24.

+1. Not sure what to make of it though, because I feel like I'm too much of a splitter to get any money from Michigan.80eight wrote:Clicked around on the ASW, under Mail & Money / Admissions Communications it now says "Dean's Scholarship Award Letter" sent 11/24.

Does anyone know if doing ED to a school like Michigan basically tells them I'm ok with being 200k in debt, since I hear most school don't give money to ED applicants (since they know your locked in).

Re: Michigan c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
So Michigan sent me an email last week saying they were reviewing my materials and curious as to what I'd been doing since I graduated this past Spring, i.e., my current employment status. Was curious if anyone else got a similar email this cycle? To be honest I thought my #s would have been an auto-ding or WL so I was a little surprised to receive the email. I would love to go to Michigan so hopefully this is a good sign that they're actually considering my application. Guess I'll join others and start neurotically checking the ASW starting tomorrow

Welp, I had been meaning to write a Why Michigan for the last 3-4 weeks, could never think of anything to write, and ended up just submitting my app about an hour ago without one. Oh well, I'll hope for the best, and hopefully I won't have to wait TOO long to hear back.

I'd be lying if I said it was my first choice, but I've never even been to the state of Michigan, let alone the university itself, so I couldn't think of anything to really say. Plus, I should be focusing on the 2 20+ page papers I have due in 3 weeks anywayKillingly wrote:Maybe you don't really want to go, then?iamrobk wrote:Welp, I had been meaning to write a Why Michigan for the last 3-4 weeks, could never think of anything to write, and ended up just submitting my app about an hour ago. Just research and talk about some clinics, that's what a lot of people do. If you're not that interested in the school, just feign interest so you can use it to leverage scholarship money, for example.iamrobk wrote:I'd be lying if I said it was my first choice, but I've never even been to the state of Michigan, let alone the university itself, so I couldn't think of anything to really say. Re: Michigan c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
People also talk about the football team or the big school atmosphere. The Why Michigan essay isn't just about showing that you crave the academic type things that Michigan does well, but that you are a real person who would thrive here. Michigan places a big emphasis on well-rounded individuals. It really shows when you come to ASW or on your first day.Hawkeye Pierce wrote:Just research and talk about some clinics, that's what a lot of people do. Nce, I'm so glad to hear that straw. I think I was reading your old post that said you wrote not about academics, but about the environment you hoped Mich could offer to thrive in. I took a similar approach and only briefly touched on a clinic just using it as an example of what I was trying to communicate rather than fawning over the program itself (especially because I haven't been there and am still unsure whether I will be going that route). Hope it will pay off.

I checked mine too and I got the same letter sent on the same date.80eight wrote:Clicked around on the ASW, under Mail & Money / Admissions Communications it now says "Dean's Scholarship Award Letter" sent 11/24.
FYI, about merit-based scholarships from their website:
"All applicants are considered automatically for merit-based aid, with no separate application required. Typically, merit decisions are made within two weeks of admission beginning in January, and awards range from $5,000 up to full tuition. In cases where no merit aid has been offered, the Financial Aid Office is occasionally able to take financial aid offers from competing schools into account.
The Admissions Office administers our two merit aid programs: Darrow Scholarships, which cover as much as full tuition plus a stipend, are awarded to approximately 14 members of each entering class selected by the faculty in reflection of the recipient's outstanding scholastic achievements as well as the sense that they will one day go on to a remarkable career.
We also offer Dean's Scholarships, which vary in size, and are offered to those whose academic achievements and demonstrated leadership promise significant contributions to both the Law School and the legal profession."

I was sent my offer email/flashdrive on 11/10. Nothing in "mail and money" section of ASW re: Dean's Scholarship. Does this mean no scholly? If I do get a merit award, should I expect someting to show up on that AWS--> Mail and Money-->Admissions Communications page in the next week or so- since its been ~2 weeks since my letter? I thought merit awards didn't go out until January, but now I'm a little confused. Congrats to everyone who got awards thus far!

Re: Michigan c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
No it doesn't mean that. As the description above indicated, there are different types of awards. I wouldn't assume you aren't going to get anything just because you didn't get a first round Dean scholarship. Most of the aid decisions won't be made at any of these schools until the spring. They need to see how their classes shake down before they can start extending money offers to candidates. Plus, people who get offers now may withdraw by Jan-Feb due to other offers and then that money will be "freed" up. Hang tight. Darrow invites, which are most desirable, don't go out for awhile still.Yeshia90 wrote:Literally, this.mattbarnes123 wrote:I was sent my offer email/flashdrive on 11/10. Ugh my status checker has literally updated every single day since the Monday before Thanksgiving (excluding Thanksgiving of course). Still no decision/access to ASW. Anyone else in the same boat?

They "update" everyone's status regularly but this doesn't mean anything new is happening to your application.wildcat25 wrote:Ugh my status checker has literally updated every single day since the Monday before Thanksgiving (excluding Thanksgiving of course).
