That does not really sound like a hold, maybe just an e-mail to let you know the admissions office is hard at work so you stop calling/e-mailing them

Looks like I'm a borderline candidate. Got an email a few hours back thanking me for being patient and encouraging me to continue to wait for their notification of decision and send in any new/additional materials if there is any. It's as close as to being on the waitlist without actually being on the waitlist hahaha.

I don't have any new updated material to send in, but is it recommended that I send in some sort of LOCI? (I'm not being waitlisted, yet, so I'm not sure what I should do).

I just got the same thing, except im a splitter. Applied for summer or fall with why mich.

Do people suggest sending a LOCI at this point? I would just about give my arm for a Mich acceptance.

Also applied for summer or fall. Seems all of us who received the email have thus far.

What else can we write if we wrote a Why Mich? I don't want to send some BS lol.

Same boat, and also wrote a "why Mich" -- reverse splitter, submitted 11/19, received status checker on 12/22.

I just got a .... Weird... Email from mich.

"Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan Law School.  Because you went to the effort of applying early in the admissions season, we are concerned that you may feel some disappointment at not having received your answer yet.  We understand the anxiety that the law school admissions procedure can cause, and are therefore writing to update you on the status of your file in an effort to alleviate at least some of that stress."

it goes on to talk about How they have a lot to review and ends with "Our goal is to have all decisions made by the end of April, but most applicants will hear well before that time.  Please be assured that receiving this email does not mean you will not get an answer until then!  It simply indicates that we recognize you have been waiting patiently, and we appreciate that."

Is this a soft deferral/waitlist?
Just got this email as well! I think this is their version of a hold. What are the other holds doing? Is sending in a LOCI any help? From the email it seemed they would want to know more if you had things to add that have changed since your application, awards, jobs e.t.c.

Nah it definitely says "We have not yet, however, rendered a decision, and are continuing to review your application file in the context of the greater applicant pool. There are a variety of reasons why we may not have been able to reach a speedy decision: sometimes we are waiting for additional information that we know is en route, like recommendation letters, updated transcripts, a new LSAT score, residency information; sometimes file-readers have different interpretations of or reactions to an application, and we need to meet and discuss; sometimes there’s an open question that we think the passage of time might clear up; and so on. "

Its Michigan's hold email.

I just received the same e-mail. To be honest, it's just nice to get some feedback, and I can see why they might want a better idea of the applicant pool before deciding (in my case, at least).

Sounds like yield protection? Would you seriously consider Mich over NYU? Maybe send a LOCI to let them know they are your first choice
It would honestly depend on the money and the fact im from the midwest pulls me there a bit. i think i'll just send another LOR from my current boss. hopefully that will help.

Got the same, not sure if everyone did or what. It seems like everyone has gotten it.

Has anyone NOT gotten this email that's not in? At least then we could know. Guess it's time to draft a LOCI. Damn, really wanted Mich. if this is the case.

Same position, with slightly lower numbers (3.76/173). Debating whether to finally write my Why Mich or just withdraw. It's unlikely I will attend, but I could see myself going there if the price is right. And, I really want the UM flash drive.

I got that email too. 170, 3.4, and a Why Michigan. I got my status checker on December 7th so, it could be anything.

10/12
High GPA
Decent LSAT
URM

I'm also a reapplicant and got in before, sent the first deposit and then withdrew (obviously decided not to attend law school at all, not because I'm a douche  )

I've already graduated from college, wrote a Why Mich, etc. Idk what else I can send but I don't want to seem uninterested and not send anything....sigh

So, is there any risk in sending a LOCI after receiving this email?

I am slightly above median GPA and slightly below the 75th percentile for LSAT, so I do not think this is necessarily a YP e-mail as I am not a YP candidate

I tailored my PS to Michigan as they have a program that I am extremely interested in so I do not think writing another Why Mich or LOCI would really help me.

Hopefully my updated transcript with a very slight increase in GPA will push me into the admit pile

Same here. I will be pretty darn depressed if I don't get in. Kind of defeats the purpose of my third retake, really.

I don't think there's anything I can do at this point except wait it out!

Got the exact same email- kind of feels like a waitlist, but not a waitlist. Are any acceptances being rolled out, or is this just Michigan saying they want to wait for a while? I'm heavy splitter, wrote a why Mich.

It's definitely not a waitlist- Michigan has the waitlist form you fill out if you get that.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
