Really disappointing drop-off in notifications. I was hoping for a slew of pre-weekend notices

Yeah, my situation is rather unique (foreign applicant, multiple lsats).
Anyway, I did apply ED, and UVA replied within a week by email.
And, no, I'm not a state resident.

Last year it was possible to "switch" your U.Va. RD application to ED at any point.
Anyone know if that's possible this year too? (and... how do you know?)
Thanks in advance!!

Just got an email from UVA saying they received my application and putting me in touch with a current student from my undergrad. Did anyone else get anything like this? I think its actually really nice to be able to talk to a current student, particularly one who went to my undergrad.

Can people post when their application went complete as they give updates?
I just want an excuse to worry a little more. Many thanks.

RD. Went complete 9/9, I think. My numbers aren't stellar so I'm sure others will get an email like this. It came from the director of admissions but seemed pretty much like a form letter other than my school specific contact. Has this happened in past cycles?

Seems like a good sign to me. I did see that some of the applications ask you to check a box to allow them to put you in contact with alum or current students that might share your interests. I can't remember if UVA was one that did or not, but that would lead me to believe it does happen. I doubt they'd bother their students with someone they were planning to reject though I don't really know how it works.

I submitted my ED app on 9/7 and it was complete on 9/8. I haven't heard anything from UVA yet and I'm getting a little antsy, especially since many other applicants are hearing back within a week. Has anyone else been waiting for an ED decision this long? (With 166/3.82, UVA is most definitely a reach school for me.)

the other people are probably qualified as hell (both numbers and softs).
just wondering, how do u know if app is COMPLETE COMPLETE for VA residents?? i see some receipt for expedited decision thing in the status checker...is that it? my status also says resident..so im guess thats confirmation that ive been confirmed as VA? and it does say my application is complete.

Sangr- no idea, but I'd guess that they will take your word when evaluating the app and then if a problem arises with the paperwork, flag it up for you.
Gator- Its impossible not to worry. I'm in the same boat, even though I know it will take months for any news from the schools I applied to, I still check everyday. I wouldn't worry too much though about it. I skimmed Duke's PT thread from last year awhile back and I saw alot of angst regarding how quickly some got a response (In 2 days versus midnight on the 10th, etc) and from what I could discern, it actually had no bearing on the outcome (UVA seems about the same with ED in terms of general speed of turnaround). Some got reserved in 3 days, some got in in 2, same went for 10 days. Remember too that far less people will come out of the wood-work to announce a WL or rejection than will use one of their first posts to exclaim over an admission. All told, I'm not sure how much, if any, the speed of the response or the self-selected sample who decide to post about it reveals about the overall admit/WL/rejection race until much later in the year and then only at certain schools (Chicago for one seems to call all admits on the same day, wait a week to then notify all rejects, and then wait exactly one more week to notify WL but none until January).

Did those of you that have already been accepted write "Why UVA?" essays? Especially those of you that applied ED.

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Just wanted to give you guys my timeline, since I see a lot of questions here:
I applied on 9/2, ED application became complete on 9/5. On 9/6, I received an email from Anne Richard asking me for a phone interview. On 9/12, I received an email giving me a student contact from the same undergrad. 9/13, email from Cordel Faulk asking me to call him (told me I was accepted ED on the phone). I didn't write a "Why UVA" essay, and surprisingly, Anne Richard didn't ask me about the question. She just wanted to talk about my resume.

I wrote a Why UVA?, but did not end up sending it in because there was no specific prompt for it like there is on the Michigan app and thought it might be a good idea to have something additional ready should they ask for it. It was the second or third question Jason Dugas asked me during the initial interview and I think I gave a pretty good answer. I don't know if they would have preferred that I just submitted my Why UVA with the rest of the app, but he seemed to like what I had to say over the phone and it didn't come up with Dean Richard when she called.
Not writing a Why UVA doesn't seem to be auto ding-worthy for ED applicants, but I think at least getting some thoughts down on paper about why you want to go to UVA is a worthwhile exercise that could help.

Well, ED'ing is the ultimate Why. Right?

Virginia might as well be Yale for anyone who doesn't apply ED or have in-state residency. Not writing a Why Virginia is the ultimate nail in the coffin, especially if your numbers are good enough for HYSCCN. Big time yield protector.

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
If you look at the UVA graph and compare it to Duke's from last year, it does seem the a Why UVA might be a solid idea. Just look at the upper right hand corner of the graphs, Duke's is almost solid green whereas UVA's is pretty solidly yellow with a few greens sprinkled about. A Why UVA is a good way of letting them know if you are in a certain number range and applying RD that you are serious about attending their school. Although we'll see how that graph changes this year with the new Dean.
