Congrats everyone!
Since there are still alot of people waiting to hear, it'd be great if people could add their numbers when they announce admittance. If I hadn't heard, I'd love to know and you can always fudge slightly to maintain anonymity, just to give them a ballpark would be great so they can get some idea of what is going on...

Isn't UVA really clear about being need blind? Besides, they just give you loans anywayihhwap1 wrote:Okay it's making me nervous that everyone keeps talking about checking this "box" to receive financial aid and I still don't remember it. What part of the application is it on? I just skimmed through my LSAC pdf....
I'm sure that box doesn't have any bearing on the decision so I wouldn't worry about it. I don't remember it either, fwiw.

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Yes, fin aid box has no impact on these things.
OOS versus In-state does have a huge impact on UVA decisions though. There is simply alot more competition for the OOS spots in past cycles. Last year's WL email had the numbers something like this: We expect 7500 applicants for the OOS spots and 650 for the In-state spots" - so they calculated that to mean something like 3% acceptance rate for OOS vs 60% acceptance rate for VA residents. So there is that.
Second, from last year's thread, apparently UVa takes a large percentage of their class from ED applicants, so they tend to give late decisions to RD candidates (jan-feb), with a huge wave of WL super late in the cycle. There was a LLLLLLLLLLooong list of qualified people who were strung along forever last year. FWIW, I recognize their handles from scanning other threads and I believe that by the time they got WL at UVa, almost all had already gotten into a higher ranked school or peer school w/$$$ (many were marked as attending Harvard). So sitting the bench at this point is really no indication of a cycle's potential.
The final thing I noticed scanning the thread from last year is that these early scholarship offers are very odd. On the one hand, you could try to read something about the # of applicants (less ED applicants this year....maybe more RD decisions needed early and offering big money in the hopes some bite to avoid potential for sinking medians caused by less applicants). But one thing came up repeatedly, UVa seems to change their strategy up alot from year to year. Almost no one above both 75ths or above 75th/one median had heard anything this time last year. No mention of big scholarship except a handful of in-state people and URMs. They noticed that was odd from the previous year, and the year before. *Shrugs* This is the summary up to post-Christmas on last year's thread. I didn't follow through, but they seemed to think a wave of WL would be coming in another couple of months.

Glad it was encouraging, it was meant to be such. Unless someone is UVA or bust (in which case, he/she should just ED and be put out of their RD misery), UVA's decision to WL is really no biggie - awesome options await that will probably make it irrelevant anyhow.ihhwap1 wrote:Thanks, that makes me feel better! And I reached identical conclusions when I read the UVa thread from last year, Mum (although I think I kept reading after January haha I think it was mostly waitlists). But, dang, that OOS acceptance rate is discouraging keeping my fingers crossed!

Law school numbers has yellow dots everywhere, I can't really read it. Can anyone tell me whats the chance of 172/ 3.68/ out of state/ didn't write a Why UVA essay getting accepted? Or is it just a crapshoot for out of staters.

I forgot to put my phone number on my app, -_- but it is on my resume.
Do they email you also or is it just calls?

They generally email asking you to call them. They will def do so if you don't have a number listed.icedflames wrote:I forgot to put my phone number on my app, -_- but it is on my resume.

I almost wish there weren't so many posts about people getting accepted. I applied ED a week ago today and I know they have 15 days but the anticipation is killing me.

If it makes you feel better, I'm sure there's a gigantic sampling bias because no one wants to volunteer that they didn't get in.
