Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Also waitlisted. RD and wrote a why UVA.
Here is the waitlist email if people wanna read:
Dear Unagi,
We hope this message finds you well. We are the admissions officers at University of Virginia School of Law and write with a status on your application for fall 2012 admission.
To date, we have reviewed thousands of applications and are seeing incredibly strong candidates in our applicant pool this year. You are one of those very strong candidates and we commend you for your extraordinary accomplishments. As we try to manage our enrollment and avoid bringing in a class that is too large, we are proceeding cautiously and are inviting you, along with a number of other outstanding candidates, to be on our wait list.
As in last year’s admissions cycle, we expect to make a significant number of offers of admission to wait-listed candidates after April 15th. We believe that you would excel at Virginia Law and we hope to be able to offer you after this date. We will do our best to have a final decision for you in late April or May.
Based upon applicant behavior in past years, we anticipate that those who are being invited to be on our wait list will respond in one of two ways:
(1) I am very interested in Virginia Law and will be pleased to consider an offer of admission whenever it may come.
(2) I am disappointed and confused. I already have been admitted to many great law schools. I need to make my decision now and do not want to wait for Virginia.
If your response is the first option, we encourage you to stay in touch with any of us – our contact information is listed below. Also, please review the Waitlist FAQs posted on our website at http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/prospe ... itlist.htm. If we are able to admit you prior to April 15th, we certainly will do so. Beginning in mid-April, we will send weekly updates via email. We will be candid with you about your chances of gaining admission to Virginia Law as we are able to assess the number of post-April 15th offers we likely will make. Please contact us with your questions at any time; we will provide honest answers.
If your response is the second option, we would appreciate your letting us know that you do not wish to wait with us. You are a talented candidate. We know you will excel in your legal studies and contribute much to our profession. We appreciate the interest you have shown in Virginia Law and wish you great success in your personal and professional endeavors.
We thank you for your patience throughout this process.

WL. Applied in Oct, 25-50 GPA, >> 75th LSAT. Wrote a pretty decent "Why UVA?"
I'm hoping this is just YP that can be cleared up with a LOCI.

WL at 11:17 PST (2:17 EST)! 2.8/176 submitted late october/early november. http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com/whimsical <-- more specific complete dates and whatever.
Not unexpected, probably going to ride out the WL to try and barter for some money at NU!

If you have a 25-50 GPA then it generally wouldn't be YP.driver2012 wrote:WL. Applied in Oct, 25-50 GPA, >> 75th LSAT. Wrote a pretty decent "Why UVA?"

Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I think this is pretty uncredited. YP is not about the particular school's medians, but about the chance the applicant stands to be admitted to better schools or get substantial money at peer (or peer-ish) schools. I'm 4/4 at Berk, Chi, NYU and Penn, all of which are ranked equal to or better than UVA, and I would imagine they win cross-admit battles with UVA. Also it's not like I'm a huge splitter or an outside shot: I'm closer to the 50 than the 25, and my LSAT is way above their 75th, and my LSP percentage was 86%.weezer21 wrote:If you have a 25-50 GPA then it generally wouldn't be YP.driver2012 wrote:WL. Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Agreed -- UVA is known for their YPing (though I'm surprised you got into Penn... IIRC UVA and Penn have identical LSAT and GPA medians and Penn is also known for YPing), and barring something horrible with your apps (which would seem to be unlikely given your other acceptances), it's probably YP for you. Start working on your letter!driver2012 wrote:I think this is pretty uncredited. Re: UVA c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I agree it's probably some amount of fit/YP going on. People above a median and a 75th at UVA also tend not to get WLed, they get $$$ offers.driver2012 wrote:I think this is pretty uncredited. Did anyone's status checker change yet? I haven't gotten an email, but I also didn't get the Chicago email, so who knows what else I'm missing.
