Hey guys! I'm gonna be a 1L at Penn in a week or so! So feel free to ask me any questions!

and hi XiFeng :)

If you don't mind me asking, what made Penn stand out for you? Why did you choose Penn? :D

Sure!

At the end, I was choosing between Penn and Michigan (both with some $$). I was really interested in Penn's certificate programs especially the Wharton certificate. And I was much more into Penn's clinics particularly the IP clinic, legislation clinic, and entrepreneurship legal clinic. The ASW pretty much sealed the deal. I really liked everyone I met and the "collegial" rep seemed to really hold true. Oh and Penn had much better placement stats in the NLJ250 :P

I'm from NYC so spending 3 years in the cold midwest didn't really appeal to me. I much preferred the east coast city vibe. Even though Philly is kinda meh, it's only 90 minutes from NYC and 2 hours to DC.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, that's helpful! Do you remember getting a fee waiver from Penn?

I actually didn't. I got fee waivers from NYU on down through the T14 except for Penn.

We are glad to have you! Pretty much my reason as well. I want to practice here (Philly/DE) or in Cali, but Berkeley turned out to be too expensive by comparison.

Hope we get in the same section! Since they sat us at the same table at ASW, maybe section/cohort section will be similar too?

Oh...so, just to be completely clear, we can start submitting from Sept 15? I can't seem to find where it says this.... The application seems to be up and running on LSAC. :?

i see, i see. this is actually good news for me, since i'd just been self-justifying to myself that applying on Sept 15 will NOT affect my chances, as opposed to Sept 1. :D

But just out of curiosity, where did you find this info? I can't for the life of me seem to be able to find anywhere that says apps will be received from Sept 15.

If you complete the application, then preview the application, you can select continue and a little message will pop up with that notification.

aha. i'm tempted to try this to see for myself with a dummy PS, etc, but I'm too afraid that the application will just end up being submitted :D

Thanks so much for the quick info update! What would we all do without you :)

Under the undergraduate employment section, should we list unpaid internships we had during college? I know Stanford wants you to include them as part of your employment history. Thanks!

If Penn's form is PDF, I'd call LSAC tech support and ask them what to do. Failing that, call Penn.

Most schools want you to snail mail it to them along with checking the box that says yes for ED. (NYU for example). i´m sure the application has instructions regarding how to ED.

I've heard its always a good idea to include employment, especially if it is relevant to something in your PS. The fact you weren't compensated w/ $$$ doesn't mean it doesn't count

The dictionary definition of employment: "the condition of having paid work"

That said, do include your internship in the EC section. There was a big increase of incoming 1Ls straight from college this year, so I think having some experience will probably look a tad bit more attractive.
