"Please limit any optional essay to one page, double spaced and title it appropriately."

Mine right now is over 1 page... so I have to cut it down :(

What kind of appropriate titles are they talking about?

Assuming you can just add something in the header/1st line with the name of the essay. Like "Penn 5 year plan," or "Art/Literature Essay."

Probably something like "Models And Bottles - How to get them and why I need them"

The way I titled all of my essays was in the header, I put:

Firstname Lastname
LSAC#
Personal Statement

(or Art/Literature Essay, Five-year Plan, etc.)

This is what I did. But it's mainly because I stole the formatting from you from before :D

Alrightttt. Thanks for the threads OP. It's good motivation for me to keep up on my application process. So i'm thinking a DS and then a Why Penn that includes a bit of my 5-year plan

Hello everyone. I'm hoping the admissions office is familiar with my chosen piece of literature...

I highly doubt it matters whether they're familiar with your chosen piece of literature.

Best of luck everyone! Hope to see some of you next fall. I will continue to serve as your TLS Penn info center (for the 3rd cycle) so feel free to ask questions.

Not anymore than the summer has :) I am sure I will have application cycle withdraw once the action picks up. This process has consumed 2 years of my life, it's really hard to accept that it's over!

But eagerly looking forward to meeting you guys at ASW. I am not sure I will sign up for the post acceptance committee, but I will def. volunteer being a panelist.

Well it would make understanding the essay a little better, although I give a summary of the gist in the intro. *shrug* Not changing the essay anyway.

Hawkeye Pierce thanks so much for compiling all of this information and starting this thread!

For those of you who are writing the 5 year plan essay, how did you interpret "professional development." I basically said that Penn would help foster a sense of integrity. The pre-law advisor at my undergrad said I might be off with that topic...

I was thinking more along the line of practical experience I can get at Penn such as clinics, internships, etc.

Like Xifeng said earlier, I essentially just wrote a Why Penn? essay, alluding to a five-year plan. I talked about one of their clinics and how that would benefit my development as a lawyer.

I'm not sure how much I'd trust a pre-law advisor, lol. TLS rips them apart for being more-or-less useless.

If you don't mind me asking, what made Penn stand out for you? Why did you choose Penn? :D
