Has anyone in the past few days/week of decisions been rejected or just WL/accepted?

I think there were some dings last week of folks who had applied in late October & earlier. People may want to check me on this, though.justicefishy wrote:Has anyone in the past few days/week of decisions been rejected or just WL/accepted?

Held by email just now. 12/21 was my second UR date, updated to 1/18 this afternoon. Did not write any optional essays so guess I'll be writing Why Penn tonight.

What do you guys think of the whole "I will withdraw all of my other applications upon admission to Penn" thing? I have been thinking seriously about it the past few days. Do these mean anything anyway, or are schools skeptical of an informal commitment like this?

Bumping this question to the new page: has everyone who was WL'ed had at least two UR dates?

Does anyone have any information on being held at Penn? Is it better or worse than being WLed? What are the chances for admission later in the cycle?
I read back through the past dozen or so pages, and can only find two other people who got held, so I'm guessing Penn WLs more people than they hold.

It'll probably have about as much weight as any other LOCI...if that even means anything.cogitoergosum wrote:+1Mr. Somebody wrote:still on my January UR, but expecting a waitlist after looking at today's eventds....

Anyone think a commitment to enroll if admitted would be appropriate/helpful? Do these mean anything anyway, or are schools skeptical of an informal commitment like this?

Not sure about Penn but I did read about someone on TLS who did this and got off of Northwestern's waitlist within a week. If you know Penn is your #1, it could give you a significant bump, imo.cogitoergosum wrote: What do you guys think of the whole "I will withdraw all of my other applications upon admission to Penn" thing? What's the difference between held and WL? Or are you guys talking about the same thing.

I think this would be great material for a LOCI. But I would not send this before a decision. Plus, the question is going to be why didn't you ED?
What I'm wondering about is how diligent adcoms are about checking these boards and on LSN. If they see some posters express that Penn is more of a safety/backup option they may be more inclined to waitlist. I feel that might explain a lot of the Chi waitlists last week as well. It's really not hard to have some intern stalk TLS/LSN and set up files for each poster.
I know that's not related to your post but I've become increasingly paranoid about this over the past couple months... lol

Maybe wishful thinking on my part, but I'm thinking Held > WL. If it was the other way around, why not just WL us and then forget about us?AntipodeanPhil wrote:Does anyone have any information on being held at Penn? Is it better or worse than being WLed? There are definitely two different statuses. My hold email states:smokeylarue wrote:What's the difference between held and WL? Or are you guys talking about the same thing.
The Admissions Committee has completed its preliminary review of your application and has decided to hold your file for further review.

My status changed literally two seconds ago. I now show as still UCR, but as of 1/18. Should I expect a WL/hold email in a few seconds, or does this mean I'm under second CR?

Crap I'm still stuck at first UR 12/19. Haven't been accepted, not held yet, not WL yet, no second update yet....

Considering no phone call, looks like that is where we are headed. I'd hope it's already too late in the day to get it, but I got my U Chicago WL email at about 6:30pm CST. Sadness.dakure wrote:Mine just changed to 1/18. Second update. Expecting the WL.
I know it fluctuates (making this question maybe impossible), but does anyone have an idea (or a guess) of what % of people get off the WL at t14 schools? I'm not sure if spending hours and hours revising LOCI's and asking for new recs is worth it. Although I do want to go there!

Did anyone who had their first UR on 1/12 get an update?
