Re: Penn c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Is the final status update "File Complete" or is there an under review status?
My file has been stuck at complete since 10/04 so I was wondering if there was any movement

My file went complete at 10/05. It also came with this note (eventually, if not right away):icedflames wrote:Is the final status update "File Complete" or is there an under review status?

""Your application is currently in the queue for review by the Admissions Committee. If you are applying Early Decision, you will receive a decision of admit, deny, or hold by December 31, 2011. Otherwise, the review process may take up to twelve weeks from the date of completion before a decision is rendered."
This note is in blue font at the top of the page, just under the school name.
Status is still "complete."

Did you guys restrict your Why Penn/5 year to 1 page? Would it be bad if it was longer?

Re: Penn c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I can't imagine someone writing 2+ pages without at least some of that being unnecessary, or worse. You shouldn't list a large number of reasons why you want to attend the school - it seems contrived. Stick to your three or four best reasons, at most. If you can't present the three or four best reasons in a page, then I think chances are high you're being verbose. That said, if you are someone who happens to have unusually complicated reasons, or an usuallly complicated five year plan - and none of the previous points apply - I don't think they'd mind two pages.DonnaDraper wrote:Did you guys restrict your Why Penn/5 year to 1 page? Mine was barely a page with three good reasons (imho).

Just sent in my app. Wrote my Why Penn essay, and in the process of writing the school definitely jumped up a few places and made it onto my short list of schools I'm excited about.
Does this ever happen to you? You feel just Okay about a school until you write the Why X, then you're crazy in love with the school?

+1 you start learning things about the school that you had no idea even existed.Campagnolo wrote:Just sent in my app. Wrote my Why Penn essay, and in the process of writing the school definitely jumped up a few places and made it onto my short list of schools I'm excited about.

How much truth is there to the old legend that ED candidates basically get no scholarships? I understand the reasoning and everything, but just curious if that is really true. My first choice, so I ED'd, but gotta say that sticker is scary at that place.

I was at an information session when someone asked about this and Dean Post said to only ED if finances are not a big concern... take that for what it's worth.MiamiOxford wrote:How much truth is there to the old legend that ED candidates basically get no scholarships? I submitted my ED app 10/24, went complete on 10/25, and my status changed to "Under Committee Review" on 11/10/11.
However, if they let me in, it may go down as the most generous thing they've ever done lol

I changed to under committee review on the 10th as well. If letting you in would be the most generous thing they've ever done, I may be a close second.oldad wrote:I submitted my ED app 10/24, went complete on 10/25, and my status changed to "Under Committee Review" on 11/10/11.

Agreed. It seems like for ED, they put acceptances before December 15th. Rejects were around that time but as late as the 22nd or so.MiamiOxford wrote:Hopefully we hear back a little earlier than the cycle last year...

As far as I'm concerned, they can take until March if that's what it takes to get me an acceptance. Penn is a reach for me as well.MiamiOxford wrote:Hopefully we hear back a little earlier than the cycle last year...

Are you ED? Mine is still at complete, but I'm RD, so I wasn't expecting something until Christmas at the earliest.WhiteGuy5 wrote:Under Review! Yay! Hopefully we'll hear back before Thanksgiving. Any history of this?
