is that a good thing? better than waitlist?

Can you guys provide timestamps?

And right now the consensus seems to be that it's a better than a waitlist and at least gets you past a couple rounds of rejections.

I'm actually starting to WISH I'd get one of these hold emails. Given the strength of many of the applicants being held, I'm worried that not getting it (after nearly 5 months of silence) can only be a bad thing at this point.

How many other Sept/Oct submits are still standing?

Oh Columbia, why won't you hold me?

Mid-October. I'm still standing. (Yeah, yeah, yeah.)

This process is so bizarre.

I somehow think that also.

I mean, they could have rejected us already, so they were waiting until Feb 15 to appraise the entire applicant pool and either waitlist or accept us, right?

RIGHT?

It could obviously mean a VCE is headed your way.

Or that they haven't reviewed your application (somehow).

Or that you're being rejected. Take your pick.

Given that there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why some people were held last week versus last night versus this am, I suspect eventually most of the people who are still waiting will be held as well. No reason to assume they've stopped, right? That said, while it's not as glamorous as a VCE, I still don't think a hold is inherently a bad sign.

Right!
.....I hope.
Realistically speaking though, it is possible that those of us not held in this batch have VCE's (or in my case, an e-mail) heading our way.

At this point there are so many people being held, I don't mind not being in that group. There are a lot of great-looking candidates in there, I'd probably be in the lower half of that group anyway.

I don't mind being in the "silence" group...seems like two likely outcomes for us are acceptance or (imminent) rejection. And if I'm going down, I'd rather not be strung on for months...

Late October submit, no word. I have a hard time believing that I'd be outright rejected, but who knows at this point...

Yeah, I was 10/29, I actually walked away from here for a couple weeks so as not to feed my own paranoia and now I'm right back...

I'm just going to assume that my VCE is in the mail and go with that for now.

Woke up this morning on the west coast to a hold email. I'm beneath both medians so this outcome is not a surprise.

Stats in profile.

Now NYU is the only school from which I have not heard.
