Still nothing here. Radio silence since early October... I have a feeling tomorrow is going to suck.

Held here as well, womp womp. Can someone enlighten me- is a hold pretty much a soft rejection? Or is it like a waitlist elsewhere? Don't know whether to be depressed or optimistic...

Sorry about all the holds, guys!! Maybe Columbia is just being extra conservative so far because they over-enrolled last year. I'm sure some of the held candidates will hear good news eventually--they'd have to given the quality of the group!

Ha - same thing happened to me when I saw her post. Much improved avatar, btw. Aubrey Plaza/Parks and Rec eternal love.amc987 wrote: Amanda, I barely recognized you with the new avatar.

Not getting held DEFINITELY does not mean you are dinged. There are Harvard auto-admit people who still haven't heard anything.mikeylikesit wrote:Is that what this means? Not a very fun week so far...horrorbusiness wrote:not held, ergo dinged

Hah. Disagree. I don't watch Parks and Rec, so I can't comment on the quality of it ( I love Amy Poehler, though). Nonetheless, you can't do much better than Up In the Air.yankees42789 wrote:Ha - same thing happened to me when I saw her post. Much improved avatar, btw. Held today. E-mail timestamp: 1:33 pm (West Coast).
Stats: 166/171, GPA: 3.9 - always thought I was a bit of a long shot for Columbia with my LSAT, to be honest.
Submitted 12/20, complete 12/30
A little sad. Columbia was my dream for undergrad and I got dinged then.

Held today as well. Surprised I'm not rejected. Seems to be a mixed bag...

What do we know from past years about what a hold means? Any rough % on how many holds are admitted?

Still nothing for me yet, so I seemingly made it through this round of holds. I'm honestly surprised because of my sub-median LSAT.

What's the point of a hold, anyway? They don't actually have to let us know until April in both cases...they're just telling me that nothing has changed? How is that different from the applicants who haven't heard anything?

Evidently I'm not held? I still haven't heard anything since I went complete. Applied 11/04. Stats in profile. Still waiting and hoping.

what i've been always thinking... though for C, holds seem more like a priority WL than anything.80eight wrote:What's the point of a hold, anyway? I have a feeling the hold is a good thing. I have auto waitlist numbers 172, GPA below median and I didn't get the hold, so I'm certain I'm destined for the Reserve soon.

172 and below 25th GPA here, and I just got held today! So, I'm not sure about anything.smokeylarue wrote:I have a feeling the hold is a good thing. I have auto waitlist numbers 172, GPA below median and I didn't get the hold, so I'm certain I'm destined for the Reserve soon.

Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
That's why I'm wondering if there is an history to draw on here - i.e., after a wave of holds, a bunch of reserves come (or, a bunch of accepts, denies, etc.). My thinking is that there will be a wave of accepts in the next week or so (weren't there a ton around the start of March 2011?). So while hold might not be "good," it isn't necessarily "bad." Judging by the numbers, I am a bit more optimistic about these holds, though.smokeylarue wrote:I have a feeling the hold is a good thing. Re: Columbia c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Is there a possibility of an invisible "middle ground," kind of like Stanford's unannounced hold? Not quite an admit, but they don't want to commit to explicitly holding you yet? I don't know how else to interpret the silence!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
