Do explain... Reverse splitters looked at more favorably now possibly? That would be sweet.

I meant that the GPA scores skyrocketed while LSAT sat at the same place. My LSAT is below median but my GPA still holds up.

meaning that if people are still above the gpa median, there is less competition for reverse splitter "spots" than there was before, al least hypothetically.
This would be easier to determine if it was the LSAT score that we were talking about b/c it's easier to predict how my traditional splitters will exist at each value, but yes, it does probably bode well for you guys

Thanks JMJ.

Yeah I'd come after Jan. 3. You'll want to sit in on a class and see what the law school is like with actual students there. I actually visited on the first day of a quarter. :D

Not that I'd have any choice by that point... 8) (hopefully)

Yeah, definitely come at the beginning of the quarter! And there are tours and things that won't be in session while we're all gone.

Complete and it says this at the bottom:

Class Deposit 0.00 .00

Does this mean anything? (probably not.) Just thought it was weird.

Not wierd. It means you haven't paid a deposit yet.

And it doesn't indicate that you have been accepted and owe a deposit, either. The class deposit line showed up for all of last year's applicants almost immediately, regardless of whether they'd be accepted or rejected.

It's only 11/3...too early to be accepted by Chi yet.

Anyone know why Chicago asks what other schools you are applying to. Is there any reason not to answer this?

they all do. IDK why Chicago would since YP isn't an issue for the T6

The occurrence of yield-protect in the T13 has been grossly overstated anyway. Literally the only T13 school I've seen demonstrating anything that looks like YP is UVA. But people still claim YP to pad their egos.

Ego protection is definitely a huge part of it. The lack of a clear definition for yield protection complicates the issue, too.

It's all very nebulous, of course, because we'll never know why rejected applicants were rejected. I think several T-13 schools yield protect, but couch yield protection in more PR-friendly vocabulary (e.g. "wanting to attend the school," softs). The degree of YP is definitely overstated on TLS, though. Some people don't want to accept that they were rejected not because their numbers are too high, but because they suck.

When Yale rejects me, it will almost assuredly be because of yield protection.

I know for a fact that Duke yield protects; was told by someone in the admissions office. It does happen.

I think the bolded is a big problem. Is it YP to reject someone who has numbers at or above the general admission threshold when it's clear by a lack of effort in their app that they have no interest in attending? I prefer that the use of the term "YP" be limited to egregious, American University-Style situations (check their LSN graph to see what I mean: http://american.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/0910/ ).

Yeah, I didn't mean that the rest of the T13 YPs to a great extent, but that the T6 almost definitely don't.

Also:

that's messed up

The weirdest thing about that level of yield protection is it seems like you're dooming your medians to never increase, so you're knocking yourself out of any competition in the rankins...in which case, why yield protect?

They must have a bean counter who figured out that their medians wouldn't move much anyways so they're trying to regulate the admitted/matriculate rate to claim the rankings that way (the law school's % admitted out of the total applicants is also factored into a law school's ranking).

They are not giving up on climbing the rankings.

Do you guys know how to change Chicago RD application to an ED one. I could not find where to change it on LSAC website... Does that mean once I initiate an RD app, I cannot change?

You can't change it on LSAC once you start, but I think you can email the AdComm and they'll give you a form to fill out, sign, and fax over.
