Does Chicago tailor waitlist letters to individual applicants, or do they all read roughly like this:

February 10, 2012

Dear -------:

The University of Chicago Law School has completed its initial review of your application. The Admissions Committee was impressed with your academic credentials, personal potential, and notable achievements. However, your file has been placed on our waitlist. I am sorry that I am unable to provide a final decision on your file at this time.

We receive more and more incredible applications each year, yet our number of seats remains limited to approximately 190. Often, there is a narrow difference between admitted and waitlisted applicants. We regrettably must waitlist many outstanding applicants.

Your application was strong, and we are giving you the opportunity to supplement your file to provide more information to the Admissions Committee. Accordingly, you may take advantage of the following opportunities:

(1) You may submit an additional essay discussing the reasons why you are interested in studying law at Chicago and how our curriculum and academic environment will help you achieve your personal and professional goals. Please limit your essay to two pages and submit your essay to admissions@law.uchicago.edu. If you have already submitted a similar essay with your application, you may simply submit a statement of continuing interest and reference the essay you submitted with your application.

(2) If applicable, you may provide updated transcripts by submitting them through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC).

The deadline for submitting an additional essay is March 30, 2012. You may submit your updated transcripts to LSAC as they become available. Please note that submitting supplemental materials is entirely optional and we will only accept materials electronically.

If you wish to remain on our waitlist, no further action is necessary at this time. We typically follow up with waitlisted applicants in the spring to verify if you would like to be reconsidered. Please note that the Admissions Committee may not make a final decision on your application until late summer. If you commit to attending another law school, we ask that you advise them of your intent to remain on our waitlist. If you would like to withdraw your application, please email admissions@law.uchicago.edu.

We wish you well in the coming months and look forward to reconsidering your application. Feel free to contact our office if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Ann Killian Perry
Associate Dean for Admissions

In! Congrats to everyone who was also admitted!

Also, to the WL's... last year this time I was in your shoes. Don't give up.

Wait - so that means apply next year?

How many people get in off the wait list?

Well, I decided to reapply. You can decide to ride the waitlist. Either way, this is not the end of the road if you really want Chicago. That's all I'm saying.

On LSN, there were seven WL/Accepts and a WL that was attending (so they must have been accepted but didn't change the status to WL/Accept) for last year's cycle.

Waitlisted. I didn't have too high expectations or anything, but at this point (with four other WL/holds), i think WL is worst than a flat out rejection.

IN!!

Submitted 12/30, last UR 2/8. (2/7, 2/8 and there may have been one before that but i didn't religiously check my status checker)

173/4.04 and my PS was not UChicago specific. I guess I just got lucky.

With this and my Columbia acceptance, my decision is going to be very difficult.

Edited for correct review dates

I didn't apply to Yale or Stanford but I do hope there is a Harvard acceptance to make my decision tougher. :D
