What do I need? A 170 on the October? Man, it would be so incredible to study at Chicago - I think about it each and every day!

170 would give you a shot, but seems waitlist-y all the way through 174 really. Certainly a shot though.

Wow. This makes me think it's really NOT a numbers game, but must be more holistic. Why else would people with similar scores have different admissions rates? I guess for a lot of the top schools it seems to be that the numbers are necessary, but not sufficient to gain admission.

When you're looking at waitlist information from this year, you REALLY need to check when they submitted their applications, because Chicago WL'd the crap out of everyone who applied late (and then used their waitlist). So basically, apply early and with a 172+ you are probably looking at srs $$.

ETA: And not only did Chicago accept a lot more people off the WL than normal, they also tended to get money (even into the summer)

I am seriously considering an ED to Chicago. My GPA is too low to count on an admit at UChi or big money at peer schools, but then I see a post like Xifeng's. Decisions: Too difficult!

Well this past cycle is definitely weird, what with the decrease in applications and Chicago having all of that $$$ to give out. So I have no idea if it'll be the same next year!

Would the consensus for anyone with a GPA <3.4 be that ED probably wont help and to just submit early and hope the waitlist is kind? Chi is definitely my #1 (if the October LSAT can put me in a position where I'm above the 75th percentile) so I would definitely ED, but it doesn't seem like a boost on LSN. Or am I misinterpreting things again?

A 3.43 and a 3.45 got in this past year ED. No one applied ED with a sub-3.4 GPA in 2010-2011. 174/3.37 was accepted ED the year before. If Chicago is your number one choice and you would be okay with paying sticker, I don't see how ED-ing could hurt at all and is probably your only shot. If you don't apply ED, you will almost certainly get rejected. Of 20 applicants on LSN with a sub-3.4 this past cycle, two were waitlisted (175+ scores), one was accepted with a 177/3.2 (no idea how) and the other 17 were flat-out rejected.

If your goal is to have the best shot at the best T14 you can get into, though, there are certainly other schools where you'd have a better chance.

same here, though I still need the LSAT score to jump to make this a conversation

On LSN, I've noticed that sub-3.5 splitters tend to do better at NYU/CLS than at Chicago. I wouldn't ED Chicago unless it's your clear favorite among CCN. This is assuming your numbers are not so low that you don't really have a chance at NYU/CLS anyway. In that case, feel free to ED Chicago.

After my 500th look at the LSN cycles of CCN over the last few years, I've decided that this is totally credited. I just gotta figure out if Chicago is really my first choice.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I haven't decided if I'm really into NYU enough to ED there instead of Chicago, but I guess I've got almost 2 months and a test to take before I have to figure out the strategy I'm going to take.

Was there ever any consensus on how to avoid an error message in the academic awards section (Question 5 under Education)?

Are " and ' okay characters? Is there a character limit?

Edit: Apparently ' is not cool.

So, Chicago asks that your resume include the number of hours spent per week on each job/activity. The application itself has a space for that, but I figure they want their instructions followed and for people to have that on their resume as well. My problem is that adding the hours spent would make my resume too crowded. Do you guys think it would be acceptable to replace:

Position -> Location -> Dates

with:

Position -> Hrs/wk -> Dates

I just don't know where else to put it that won't wreck the formatting. Maybe in the job description?
