I can vouch for this. He is.

Unfortunately, I am not as prestige-obsessed. Harvard debt totally freaks me out. I really thought Chicago would be a viable option. Oh well!

Again. This is like...the definition of a champagne problem.

I know! Lol! I keep feeling bad when I realize I'm complaining about choosing between Harvard and UVA with a 95% scholarship. Life is tough...

Wooow... after catching up on this thread I am very nervous about the next batch of app decisions. I can't believe that so many great applicants got the WL.

Congrats to those of you who got good news, and good luck to those of you who are riding the WL.

Waitlisted as well. 172/3.6x with 1/12 update. It was my first choice so I'll absolutely send a loci.
My family and friends unfortunately won't participate in my pity party since I'm in at other great schools. Glad you guys understand/are equally neurotic

Waitlisted.

Was the waitlist email vanilla in that Chicago asked everyone to supplement their application with a Why Chicago?

Went UR today for the first time and after seeing so many WLs/Dings today I'm pretty sure I won't even bother checking Chi's status checker lol. Sorry for all those that really wanted Chi out there that heard back with bad news today, grats to all the new people in. What gets to me is that of the few schools I applied to, I'm pretty sure the only two I had to pay for (NYU and Chi) are the least likely to admit me this year based off of so many other people's results -_-.

Those of you WLed who really want to go to UChicago, don't give up, I would highly recommend sending in a LOCI. I have a feeling they will reach deeper than usual into the waitlist this year (I feel like schools are being very cautious in their admittances so far with more waitlisting and/or taking longer than usual). I would probably choose NYU over UChicago anyway, so I'm not going to bother writing one and I'm sure many others who are in my position or just have no strong interest in Chicago will also feel the same and probably not write a LOCI.

Basically in conclusion, if you're waitlisted and Chicago is your dream, send in LOCI !!!

This. And isn't Chicago's deposit date way earlier than other schools? I have a feeling more people on the waitlist would know earlier than other schools.

Looking at the numbers of some of the WLers makes me self-conscious. Like, the fact that I was admitted is evidence that my app wasn't strong enough to earn a YP.

Nah, I wouldn't look at it that way. I mean, yeah, I think some of the WLs were YP (179/3.8 not admitted? wtf?), but they still want superior students. They're not going to only accept weak people for fear of bad yield #s.

I'm sure I would worry about the same thing, haha, so I'm not shooting you down, but I think you should be pleased you got in. Some really strong applicants got in (see MumofCad). Congrats!

And this is coming from a WL, so you know I'm not just trying to convince myself

WL here- 170, 3.8x. Cycle was going pretty darn good 'til yesterday.

You think Chicago really YPs (obviously not me, but some of those other people)? Have they done it before? I still don't see what the point of YP a 179/3.9 would be--this person is going to have a ton of other great options. A WL pretty much kills any shot of Chicago nabbing them, doesn't it?

The interesting thing about Chicago was that it's so appealing based on the strength of its employment data (Arguably the strongest hard data of any school in the country) but not that many people seem enthusiastic about actually going to school there.

Idk what they do honestly, but there were a lot of people with really good numbers waitlisted yesterday. They have a small class size and can reasonably assume most of those with high numbers that they don't offer Rubensteins to will probably go to HYS instead. It makes sense to WL some of them that they probably aren't going to scholarship to see how committed they are rather than just accepting pretty much everyone over a certain point and then losing a bunch like NYU does, for instance.

WL yesterday as well. 174/3.3x, so basically it's an honor to be in the same category as all you fine people.

And yes to whoever asked before - I did have a smug moment noticing the run-on sentence at the beginning of the WL email. Not very rigorous.

Haha... I was having the same thoughts myself - that Chicago found spotted something in app that they knew would make HYS unlikely. I tried to explain this to friends who haven't been on TLS, but they just don't seem to have an appreciation for obsessive neuroticism that you guys do.

Anyways - no Rubys reported? Mum of Cad, any of the usual suspects? :)

How do you send new stuff to Chicago to get off the WL? Through LSAC? Email? Snail-mail? Essays, LORs, Resumes, etc.
