Seriously though, he speaks Chinese and I would like to continue him in an immersion program. For some reason, they hold the lotteries for the programs in most cities in January. I have to prove potential residency by then (ie. signed lease) to enter him. I guess they take the wait-list pretty seriously for kindergartens these days. Who knew. No transfer option after 1K either.

URM?

URM?

does URM get a boost in K admissions?
Also, softs don't matter. You sound like taxguy talking about his son. Also, he shouldn't go to a K school planning on transferring out. It's almost impossible to know how you will perform in Kindergarten having no previous experience at anything like it. The tests are different than preschool. Have you considered having him ED anywhere?

seriously though, your kid sounds impressive.

Actually, in the preschool world of Chinese immersion, yes, he was a URM. Being a white male, he was boosted over 15 Chinese/part-Chinese families to meet the school's diversity considerations (I am not kidding). It was probably my first and last taste of the diversity boost - so sweet.

Oh and yes, he has amazing softs. He's only 4 and he can almost do an unassisted headstand. That's practically a Gold medal in the eyes of his friends.

I think you're about the only person who makes talking about his kid interesting to other people :D

I'm planning to apply ED to Chicago, but taking the LSAT in October. Obviously, I won't get fee waivers until after my score comes back. So, two questions: Can I get a merit waiver to Chicago as an ED splitter? If so, can I start filling out my application through LSAC now and apply the fee waiver later, or should I wait until I get a decision on a fee waiver to start it?

Their fee waiver stuff is kind of random. I didn't get one, but someone else with the same LSAT score did. And I'm pretty sure all the fee waiver stuff is at the end so you should be able to start it now.

If I were to start an ED application and end up deciding to go RD (pending October LSAT) I can switch right? Seems like that would make sense, but just want to make sure.

I actually don't know. I think last year you couldn't. I'd email LSAC and check before you start anything

So in part 5 "education," should we include secondary schools attended under institutions? What about high school academic awards in the awards section?

I just added the secondary school to the Additional Demographics section, not under the education section.

And, hell no. Nobody cares about high school awards.

Quick question. Started filling out the application basics. What about the question what other law schools are you applying to? What's the correct answer?

I'm looking at the app from last year and don't see this question, so I'm not sure what I put (which would of course be the credited response). Sorry :/

I looked at HP's and this year's is COMPLETELY different (we didn't have that question). I think people on TLS think that when lower-tiered schools ask this question, they're trying to figure out how seriously you're taking that school, but Chicago is pretty high up there so no clue why they want to know.

What's the consensus on whether you want the scholarship committee to consider need? Yes unless you're super rich? No unless you're super poor?

Thanks. I'm kind of applying to a lot of schools, so I think it would be ridiculous to list them all. Would 4 or 5 be appropriate and not lying?

I'm neither super rich nor super poor, but I selected Yes. I don't see any advantage to not selecting yes.

I'm sure that would be fine. To be honest, you could probably just list the peer schools.
