Hahaha that would mean I had a status checker. They literally never e-mailed me saying a goddamn word to me so I didn't have any way to check my status or even know they had received my application. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get an acceptance letter by the time the Fall semester starts. Totally worthless.

Good luck to the rest of you!

Any Ideas when we might expect the next round of decisions?

Just called admissions. Decisions are being released on a rolling basis and we will be released by the end of April. Apps that were held were placed back into the system (we lost our place in line) and are being reevaluated with those that have just recently applied. All updates will be on the status checker. :|

Wow. Colossal failure.

lulz. Sounds like SMU fucked up royally. I can't believe that don't have a way to tag those that were held and pull them back out.

I wonder if this will help, hurt or do nothing for border line candidates?

I can't imagine it doing anything other than hurting us.

Will it help or hurt? Who knows.

I guess this makes me no care that I applied Mid-January.

I got held for further review as well. It really sucks. I applied before the Early Decision deadline in order to know where I was going to school by now since deposit deadlines are coming up soon... but SMU is the only school I'm waiting from. I called and spoke to someone about my situation and the person I spoke to suggested I just pay a deposit elsewhere as I wait for SMU to give me my decision. I wish! I don't have money to put a deposit down at a school and potentially lose it.... gah. This is lame

Boy, I guess they really are just going to leave us hanging like this. According to the OP, last year they had acceptances in mid-march and then again not until mid and late April. That's a full seven months for me.

How would ya'll weigh a Sumners scholarship at SMU (special network, prestige, full tuition/fees, living stipend) versus a partial scholarship to UT?

If you want to practice in Texas, favorably. Coming out of a pretty strong regional school with no debt is pretty awesome.

You should 100% take UT and not even look back.

Why's that?

It's funny- I've had SMU people tell me that SMU is less competitive because of the ranking and is easier to get into the top X%, but UT people have told me that it is easier at UT because UT is larger.

Because UT offers a vast world of job opportunities that SMU will never let you get. Plus, the Sumners Scholar requires top 10%. They will do everything they can short of giving you the test questions ahead of time to ensure that you make it, but still...if you don't, then you're on the hook for the next two years at full price.

But mainly job prospects. UT will have more employers across a wider range of of differing job types, and have more options for people not in the top X%.

Are job prospects for a UT grad in Texas really that good? They made it sound like if you are Sumner Scholar, you get access to the SMU network in Dallas and a few other places (very tight network) plus the entire Sumner network (even tighter)...whereas as a UT grad, you are just some guy graduating from a huge, impersonal school with no personal network waiting for you in law.

I guess I just don't know the increased worth of going to UT Law over SMU because 1) I have no idea how the UT Law connection works for you compared to being in the tight SMU/Sumner family and 2) I don't know how much more weight a UT degree will carry in Texas than an SMU degree if personal connections/school loyalty are set aside.
