I don't think you have a shot with a 148. I think you need to get that to at least a 155 or so, even with URM status. I could be wrong, but they are an LSAT-heavy school, and you're applying very late.

I'm with Kalvano, sorry. I think a 148 twice is a little too low, especially for FT. I know a couple (read: exactly 2) people who got in last year with scores in the low- to mid-150s, but no one in the 140s. Even with the URM bump, it's unlikely. You would have had a better shot applying in October or November. Is there anyway you can retake and apply next cycle?

Also, the 3.91 is great, but your grad GPA doesn't (or only BARELY) counts when compared to your UG GPA.

+1. My GPA isn't low but I have been passed over by all three for updates. Incredibly weird cycle for me this time around.

And I'm in at Texas, so I thought I was good for these three...guess not *kanye shrug*

I am being "passed over" for updates from Baylor and SMU. I went complete with Baylor on 11/2 and complete with SMU on 12/2. Think I should contact them at this point?

I'm October for all three so I would say no. I contacted Baylor because I applied for Summer and they gave me a generic "still in review, decision in the coming weeks" response.

Thank you all for your honest responses.

and to follow up with some of your comments

1) I would not mind the evening program at all... actually I would prefer it, so I could find a job
2) my undergrad is from Texas A&M, my MBA from UT-Pan American, a local university in the Rio Grande Valley
3) I would prefer to get accepted to law school for Fall 2012, even if that meant going somewhere else if not accepted at SMU
4) I've written an addendum to explain my low lsat scores

I have a 3.41 GPA from FSU. I believe the median LSAT at SMU (full-time) is around 163 and sharply rising? I could be wrong about that. Regardless I know my chances are heavily diminished due to late application and a so-so GPA. I'm thinking a killer LSAT will be my only shot. What number do you guys think I'd need to 1) make me competitive 2) secure acceptance?

Might be worth noting my undergrad was Econ/Physics. Could count for something. Dunno how many math kids are applying to law school.

Appreciate any feedback

168 would be a solid in with money. 165-166 would still be a good chance, and almost certainly in if you held off and applied next cycle. Even if you get in with a 165-166, you may not get money, and in that case I would sit out and re-apply. SMU is expensive without some help.

Yeah, that's about what I figured. Do you know if I'd even be able to apply for scholarship as a late decision applicant? Like you said, it's mad expensive w/o help.

Your application for admission is the application for FinAid, you don't need to apply separately. Of course, there's more money available the earlier you apply, but they will (to my knowledge) still evaluate your application and offer you a scholly package if your numbers warrant one, even if you apply later in the cycle.

Don't read too much in to the updates, guys. Just because you didn't get updated doesn't mean you're not in (or that you are in). SMU doesn't just let everyone who's getting in know during one fell swoop.

But I definitely remember being a little bit neurotic during this time last year. So carry on, if you feel the need to.

It seems to be associated with something everywhere else. It makes sense to me, honestly. When I have to do data updates for something, I always associate one group and just update that group, then I update the next group, and the next group.

I'm hoping this is the case, anyways. It'd be nice to get an acceptance to SMU. Dallas is sweet.

My point was more that just because you aren't updated as of today (or yesterday, or whatever) doesn't mean that you can interpret what that means, or that it even DEFINITELY means something. Some schools update you every time they touch your file. Even if the group that's being updated is in, it doesn't mean that because you aren't updated you aren't in. It just means you aren't in during this wave.

That being said, read last year's thread from around this time of January to see what was going on with our class then...you might get some insight. Honestly, it's been a year...I don't really remember.

Alright y'all, so I went back to last years thread to take a look.. and here is what I found...

Regardless of who had an "update" around this time every ED applicant received their decision by the 31st. The only ones that heard anything before the 31st were a few rejections and one or two "held for further reviews". There were also a few RD applicants that heard a decision on the 31st. But it seemed like they literally waited until the 31st to release an acceptance.

Some applicants received acceptance phone calls on the 31st, but every ED received a status update stating either admission, denial, or held for further review.

That's what I saw. Maybe we won't have to wait till Tuesday.. but I bet we will.

Good luck!

Mine changed on the 24th to part-time. I called the school and they told me it didn't mean anything.

I'm curious to know if anyone's status changed from FT to PT under program time? Very strange.
