But honestly I do not think it would be wise to just go to Stanford instead of Harvard based on this year's rankings....in three years when you graduate the rankings are likely gonna be different. That's why I think people should have other reasons for choosing their schools apart from rankings.

Does anyone know if there were JS1s scheduled for today or later this week?

+1 Employment prospects are highly determinable by region (with H&Y exceptions). Depth and saturation of alumni in the locale of interest are definitely key aspects to consider along with the numbers.

Who am I kidding? I've been stalking US News for the past two weeks. Hail Stanford.

Anyone else think Harvard is going to have to accept a few more students to compensate for its recent drop? I know most people realize that small changes in the rankings don't matter, but there have to be at least a few who mistakenly think it's a big deal, or who worry about it being indicative of something more significant, and perhaps some other students who are having such a hard time deciding that this tiny change swings the decision for them.

If anything, they might finally start reducing class size to boost student:faculty ratio and per student spending.

Changing something like section size or number of sections is tricky, so they're probably going to keep doing what they've been doing to end up with 560 students at the beginning of the upcoming school year. HLS keeps an active waitlist, so there's not much need to accept more people outright. (The waitlist might be somewhat more active than in other years, but even that is hard to judge; an acquaintance at HLS got in the week before school started this year.)

I know someone that was one week into his 1L year at NYU, got off the Harvard waitlist, and decided to jump ship.

Would someone please be kind enough to compose a google doc for the people that have recently had js1s so that they can post their numbers and js1 date... so we can get a good idea of how many of us are waiting for a js2? Thanks in advance!

For the purposes of keeping everything standardized, post the date of your actual interview, not the invite.

Also post the link to a viewable sheet.

crossing my fingers for some JS2's today. Does she usually make calls in the evening or is it pretty sporadic?

Poptorts I love you, but you're no google doc wizard. Take yours down and use mine.

FORM:

Thanks! I need a tutorial on these things. Someone once posted one where after answering the criteria it immediately went to the results, no second URL needed. I need to step my Google doc game up! Thanks again for the help.

So what do we think the chances are that there will be another JS1 batch soon?? High? Not so high? I only bring this up because I believe that the last batch acceptances during the 2010-2011 cycle occurred on 3/14/11. I realize that Harvard is supposedly behind on reviewing apps because of all the turnover in the admissions office, but you'd think that they're probably winding down, right? But didn't JS tell an interviewee that there are still tons of files left... I'm not sure how those two theories get reconciled.

One could go crazy trying to read the tea leaves for Harvard admissions.

I don't think reading the tea leaves would be very beneficial this year...

I would think they would have more JS1s to before April begins, and then I would imagine they'll use the waitlist in late April.

Also, I would love verification from someone who JS told they have a lot of applications to get through. That would be nice to read.
