UR 1/11. Not a word yet. I think we got some time.
Can someone clarify the different levels of "completion" here? Because I was UR 12/23, but got a complete email 1/12. I was under the impression that the complete email meant something different here, no?
Oh, so your status checker can say "File Under Review" long before you get the "Application complete" email? Can anyone weigh in on this?
When harvard says application complete, they mean that they are done with it. Not like the other (most) schools that use the word 'complete' to say that they successfully received all your application components such as LORs, essays, LSAT etc.

Yes, this happens to a lot of people (myself included).

TITCR.
I went complete 12/1 and was held...
:(

I do have the impression that they use the "hold" as a sort of "look, we can't really tell you anything, but you've been waiting for a while, so we're acknowledging that we've looked at your application."
The only thing that makes me feel a little better than that is that they have issued a lot of rejections already.. and to people who submitted later than me. So maybe, just MAYBE getting held means something more than what you suggest?

so-fetch, are you sure that's as far as the meaning of "complete" goes? I called the admissions office between UR and complete, and the very nice lady there told me "oh yes, we have all your documents it seems, but your application is simply in the last stages of completion. you should get the complete email before the end of this week."

Held, dammit, held. WAY better than a rejection. Made me a bit happy because I know many people have already been rejected and I'm nowhere near Harvard medians, so it's a + for me.

There are two completes, I think. I went complete right before they started reviewing my app and again after, but only got an email one of those times I think.

Did everyone else who got held have their status change to today?

That almost makes it sound like "completion" means it has gone through the adcom and they have evaluated/ranked/graded it, and may take action sooner or later depending on the strength of your app.

No I am not 100% sure what complete means, I am just going off of observed patterns from other applicants who have shared on TLS. What is your theory on what it means? Maybe I am misinterpreting what you wrote about calling HLS but I don't think that my theory necessarily conflicts with your fact pattern

Just want to clarify...since there have been some breakouts of stress and misinterpretation induced misunderstandings on this site... I am also curious on this and not trying to start a fight or anything. Like I said before I am just going off of what others have said on here. I do not purport to be an expert on anything law school admissions related let alone harvard's admissions process :)

Does anybody know what percentage of the applicant pool gets "held" each year? And how many eventually get accepted? It seems there are a LOT of holds. Just wondering what one's chances are at this point?

It seems like way more holds this year than last year. No idea about the overall percentages, but about half of those who were held last year in the thread got KB1s eventually, about half of those eventually got in. The others were all waitlisted or disappeared.

so_fetch, the ways of HLS seem unknowable :D

I think the admissions lady technically used the phrase "final stages of processing," which made it sound more administrative than evaluative... But then again, a lot of KB1 people get the KB emails very soon after receiving the actual "complete" emails, which kind of provides support for your interpretation...

Everything is just so confusing.

Don't want to burst bubbles, but I've come to understand the Harvard hold is a soft Reject...I would love for someone to tell me I'm wrong :).

Pretty sure that's wrong! Like snehpets said, I think about 25% of the holds eventually get in... :)

EDIT: Again... on the basis of TLS and LSN, not necessarily representative...

No. You can receive a KB1 as early as 2 days after a hold.

SO IF WE'RE ON LSN, WE HAVE A 25% CHANCE OF GETTING IN AFTER HOLD?

right right?! lol

So considering the fact that I didn't even want to apply to HYS, assuming I'd FOR SURE get rejected, I should be encouraged by the fact that I got held by Harvard Law?
