Went UR today, submitted 10/30. Anyone have thoughts on how long until late October submissions will start hearing about KB1's? My guess would be 2-3 weeks?

I'm wondering this too. I applied on 10/28 and went UR 11/2, but I am definitely not getting my hopes up. It seems like the people on TLS who have gotten KB1 invites are above both medians, are above the 75th GPA/25th-median LSAT (4.0/172-3, say), or are above the 75th LSAT/ 25th-median GPA (177+, 3.8X). In other words, they're taking the people they want the most and interviewing/admitting them before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I think everyone else might be in for a long wait. Here's hoping I'm wrong, though...

I'm at/below both medians... It's eithr random or they're picking early applicants with overall profiles they just like for some reason or another... I'm still scratching my head as to how I got one alongside all these other amazing and strong applicants

same here. probably at this point application-season fatigue hasn't set in yet and they're responding more generously to personal statements/interesting softs they like?

Yea I think that's def an advantage of applying early in the cycle.

Well, UVA is clearly just cherry-picking applicants they like for their enormous scholarships and passing over other applicants they will (presumably) admit later. Perhaps Harvard is just cherry-picking applicants for early interviews, before going back for a more careful and systematic look at some point later this cycle.

Also, why am I being quoted as writing something I didn't write? I went UR a few weeks back.

My feeling is that they just have a big pile to sift through and are just picking people as they go. Would explain the seemingly random order.

This is my hope as I am >75th GPA and Median LSAT. Hoping we all get our KB1s soon

Did anyone in this pile submit the application before 10\2(which is the latest submittion date of the first kb1 pile)? If the answer is nobody then I guess it is by time submitted.

Also if I remembered correctly nobody in the first pile went UR after oct13. So it could be by UR, too.

Either way it is not good news. Hope you guys are right, though. I am so not cool that I want to release my 4th recommendation right now although I know I probably should not..

Odds are if this year holds as previous years, yes. In your case I would think this will be irrelevant. Possibly you'll hear in the second week of Dec.

For those people who interview(ed) this week, is the general consensus that acceptance calls are to be expected the week of Thanksgiving (11/21 - 11/23)? I know that last year's acceptance calls were made during that week, but since first interviews were made later this year, I was curious to see if any of you thought that the first acceptance calls this year would be made after Thanksgiving. I'm not sure when they were made in years prior to last. Any thoughts?

Harvard loves to give people something to talk about over Thanksgiving dinner, and why shouldn't they? It's great marketing. Expect the calls, although conditions on the ground can change so nothing is absolute.

So had my interview this morning. It went okay, although not as well as it did in my head as I was preparing. KB was very nice, standard questions.

I have a question though: Should I read too much into the fact that she didn't say I will hear at the end of the month? I didn't ask when we would hear, but I gather she told other people... Or am I just overanalyzing everything?

Shulman, pretty sure he means he thinks you did miss the first round but that it really shouldn't matter, considering you didn't apply in the earliest round of applicants

I'm hoping acceptances will still be given before Thanksgiving, even though there was a delay in interviews. Though, I also have a job interview just before Thanksgiving, so I'm going to need some deep meditation techniques that week or something - or maybe I'll just freak out around my family and eat an entire turkey from stress

I think the main thing to do is to have answers to the handful of standard questions. Even if you stumble over them a little during the interview, so does everyone else.

One thing that may not be obvious is that if you're admitted early, the entire rest of the recruiting process can be influenced by what you say your interests are in your interview. I mentioned being interested in education law/policy in my JR1 last year, and maybe being interested in cross-registering a bit at the Kennedy School, and at the end of February, out of blue, I got an email from a JD/MPP student focusing on education law and policy. In late March, I think, I got a package from HLS, opened it up, and discovered that it was the Dean's most recent book (with a handwritten, personalized note) on education law.

I would say just give some genuine thought to the questions she's been asking, find a relatively quiet place to wait for the call, and be yourself!
