If I have to change my contact number for a potential JS1...should I email in advance? Or is there an opportunity to do it if I happen to get one?

Same question - I e-mailed Yale with the new one since they just call with acceptances but Harvard seems to not like e-mails...pangoo wrote:If I have to change my contact number for a potential JS1...should I email in advance? Or is there an opportunity to do it if I happen to get one?

The email offering the JS1 allows you to reply if the number won't work.

Can anyone PM me the admitted students phone number? I recently moved and need to let them know my new address. JS gave me a number to call, but in my excitedness I must have written it down wrong, cuz its not working when I dial it. Thanks! And good luck to everyone!

Just call the admissions office and ask them for it instead of relying on strangers on the internet who don't technically know if you got in or not and might be hesitant in giving out what seems to be proprietary information?Vaclac wrote:Can anyone PM me the admitted students phone number? Would anyone on here be willing to read my LOCI? I've never sent in a LOCI before, so I want to make sure that my letter is Harvard appropriate.

I got the email for a JS1! Super excited!
I'm thinking about taking some time off before law school (Teach for America). Should I mention that in the interview or avoiding talking about deferring law school for 2 years?

Congrats! It sounds like JS has been asking a lot of people still in undergrad if they've considered taking time off and getting some work experience before law school, so I think mentioning that you're contemplating doing TFA will probably be looked on positively (as long as you make it clear why you want to go to law school).justicefishywishy wrote:I got the email for a JS1! In that perspective... would someone from Quebec (Canada) be considered international or the same category as US applicants? I have a general feeling that canadians are usually not considered internationals, but I'm not 100% sure because the Quebec univs. are a bit different from the rest of the canadian universities (for instance, we do our degrees in 3 years instead of 4 and we do not have a minor/major system)mjitbswyd wrote:I am fairly sure you are right that we are competing against other internationals (or even with our own people). But it does not explain why no international from the latest JS1s gets a JS2 (or maybe someone did but not on TLS, but I highly doubt that): I am sure JS has finished reading the materials from true international before issuing the latest JS1 invitations (just like she likely finished reading all URM application before the latest batch of JS1).poultry wrote:I have an even wilder speculation. I think they maintain a quota for international students, ie. two koreans, two chinese, a bunch of new zealanders, etc. (I made up the numbers). So we are not actually competing with the vast majority of domestic applicants, and we are evaluated based on a very small international applicants pool, the relative strength of which determines our chance. My empirical observations seem to back this theory up. But again, that's my pure speculation. Wish us all good luck!

At first I thought it was because I was not good enough (which might still be the case), but now I think such timing might apply to all international JS1s in this batch. She might want to go through the whole held application pool (not just internationals) to decide how many internationals she would take before issuing any international JS2s.
My theory is that they want to estimate the LSAT median for the incoming class, and then sprinkle internationals into the mix until the median = 173 again. We're the easiest way to remedy a low LSAT median, since there are a lot of us at 173 or above, and we don't mess with the GPA quartiles.

Since you have no reportable GPA I think you are considered a true international.backwards54 wrote: In that perspective... would someone from Quebec (Canada) be considered international or the same category as US applicants? No no we have a GPA! It's a bit different than the 4.0 US GPA, we have a 4.3 system (with A+s counting as 4.3 grades). But aside from that small difference our GPAs mostly work out the same way.mjitbswyd wrote:Since you have no reportable GPA I think you are considered a true international.backwards54 wrote: In that perspective... would someone from Quebec (Canada) be considered international or the same category as US applicants? Re: Harvard 2012 applicants (class of 2015)
As far as I know, Quebecois universities are counted like other Canadian ones. The differences are relatively minor and don't really have an impact as far as the US admissions process goes. (LSAC uses the 4.3 scale too, by the way, as do some universities in the US, so there's no problem converting that GPA.)

Would you mind sharing your numbers, when you went on hold, if you're a URM, etc.?justicefishywishy wrote:I got the email for a JS1! Super excited!
