That early?
When will the first interviews generally be held?
Also, if you are not invited to an interview for the first round, does that mean that you are (most likely) a rejection?

No, it only means you are not an auto-admit, they will wait until they see the rest of the applicant pool until they make a final decision about you.icedflames wrote:That early?

Me too! I think a waitlist will still count as success in my eyes.sea15 wrote:Under review. That is scary to see!

One bit of meaningless speculation:
Did anyone notice this bit about application status check:
Does this mean, for this year, we will not get a separate application complete e-mail / status update?

I would assume the next communication once "under review" will be a JR1 invite or "other" decision at some point (hold, WL,rejection, etc). I don't expect another email about being complete and having received one thus far after being complete for a month so....Nulli Secundus wrote:One bit of meaningless speculation:

That would be different from last year then. Last year, people received e-mails and corresponding status updates about their applications being complete, but seemingly at random times, sometimes after a JR1 invite. That is what I meant.

Well I hope they change it, because you all know we'll be jumping out of our skin to get an email from them. What a let down for it to just say, you're complete.

I noticed that bit, so I just assumed we wouldn't be updated about being complete.Nulli Secundus wrote:That would be different from last year then. In the past, have JR1 (or KB1) emails gone out corresponding to the order of apps submitted or just in one big batch to potential auto-admits (who seem to be the ones to get theirs first)? I don't want to start meaninglessly speculating over my chances of admission, but when these emails do start to come out, I'd like some indication about whether its date submitted app or just how much they like you...

From last year's thread, it seems like the emails go out in batches, roughly in order of applications submitted - at least for the pre-Thanksgiving group.annyong wrote: I noticed that bit, so I just assumed we wouldn't be updated about being complete.

HLS interviews around 1200 candidates, and extends offers to around 800. That means one will have to do pretty badly to mess up an interview. I mean it's not like job interviews, in which 7 candidates may be interviewed for 1 job.

Re: Harvard 2012 applicants (class of 2015)
Yeah KB came to my school and pretty much said--it's already mostly pre-determined. if you're in before the interview, then you need to not screw up. If you were going to be waitlisted anyway, then you need to wow her. The interview itself usually doesn't become the deciding factor.acrossthelake wrote:In retrospect, I'm mildly suspicious that the decisions were almost already pre-decided before some of the pre-Thanksgiving phone calls were even made. I was told at the end of the interview to expect to hear back in mid-November...when only admits ever hear back in mid-November. (They didn't do holds until January I think). I don't necessarily think that most who got the JR1, then no JR2, necessarily screwed up, either.jim-green wrote:HLS interviews around 1200 candidates, and extends offers to around 800. I may also hear back (via email) today about whether I passed my comps paper. So, yeah, email vigilance.
