New York is amazing, and it would be a dream to go to NYU, but I still feel like I've got to be realistic. COL is so high there, and since I want to do public interest, I'm still debating whether it would be worth going where I get more scholarship v. the best school for public interest I get into. We'll see... *sigh*

NYU's LRAP is really good. Also, NYU is amazing for PI.

Best of luck to you all!

Yep, that's why it's my first choice right now :D Hopefully I can get in RD.

This is true.

I don't think I am EDing though because if I apply early, I think I have a decent shot. Though I love NYU still want to see how money plays out and stuff.

So, I guess I'm one of the 1st RD people here.

Question: Since I really want to show my interest, should I write a "Why NYU"?? Any thoughts?

Yeah, I'd play that game but I'm not getting anything substantial from any other school it makes sense to consider.

I'm just really afraid of being tied into any one thing, especially if I visit other schools and decide I like 'em more at some point. Also, trying to find out where my SO will be located job-wise, as that may influence my decision. Don't know if this is a bad strategy, but oh well. If I don't get in, honestly I might just take another year off and try again. We'll see!

Seems like I'm basically the female version of the type of NYU applicant you are, as I im in total agreement with your post!

Anyone applying for the scholarships? I am going to put in an app for RTK and maybe IILJ, though I have a slim to none chance at either. Sigh. But hey, worth a try I guess.

Can't wait to send out my application! Hope to get in on the first wave that usually comes out mid-December.

I'm applying for the Furman. Anyone else out there doing this? Does anyone know what it takes to get one?

They don't award many of these to incoming students. The few that do receive it then often have grad degrees from top schools. More Furman recipients receive the scholarship after 1L.

Do we have to submit essays for additional scholarships at the same time we apply RD? I'm thinking yes..

The IILJ essay says: Interested applicants are asked to submit a one-page essay, of no more than 500 words, with the JD application. The essay should explain how your approach and commitment to scholarship and to your intended study of international law make you a suitable candidate for the Scholars Program.

I need time to work on that... but I don't want to delay my application. :(

It's only August 10. Get going and you can have your app in really early still. As long as you get your app in before October scores come out, you're in really good shape. Even if you get your app in by early November, you're in good shape. Applications as late as mid-November got some responses by early December. I got my app in on like Nov 15 or something and I was in the second batch (meaning 3 days after the first).

Thanks for the encouragement :D I think I'm just tense about the application because NYU is my top choice. I'll try to get it in by September!

I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse, but I found NYU to be the most predictable of the T10 schools. Probably the most predictable T14 outside of G-Town. If you have the numbers to get in, and you apply before Thanksgiving, you should feel pretty good. But don't let that be an excuse to wait until November to get your stuff in.

That's the weird thing: my numbers put me in better position for NYU than for, say, Virginia. I just hope this cycle is as nice as last year's for people with my stats.

No, that does help a lot. I think my numbers can get me in, unless I screw up some part of my application... which I hope won't happen :)

NYU is definitely one of my top choices (alongside Chicago). PI and all that.

If you want PI, why is Chicago a top choice? They sent ONE person into PI last year... and I hear their LRAP is not even that good. I am not applying.

TBF, they upgraded their LRAP: http://www.law.uchicago.edu/news/dramat ... ed-support

I didn't mean to imply that Chicago was well known for PI (though I do like their new LRAP). I like Chicago for other reasons.

Absolutely, me too. My friend just graduated from NYU, and he couldn't say enough good thing about it. He's trying to find work as a public defender, I believe.

So, correct me if I am wrong, but if you apply ED then that means you cannot apply for scholarships? Or do you just have less of a chance receiving them if you are accepted ED?

You can still apply for them (I'm applying RTK), and the general consensus seems to be that an ED won't necessarily hurt your chances (at least, I think).

Can you get merit aid without the special submit an essay scholarships? I will try for RTK, but in the likely chance I don't get it, is there anything? I tried looking up NYU merit scholarships on LSN, but it seems kind of erratic. Many people put "$1", too. Anyone know what that means?
