Hi I know nothing. How do we know there are less applicants at NYU this year? Inferred from the downturn in applicants as a whole?

He didn't say anything about NYU. He was referring solely to the overall lower numbers. But yeah, we can probably infer that NYU's numbers are down as well

Nope. It's kind of silly because it's doubtful they'd even ask your name and if they did and you thought it would look bad I guess you could hang up. But I'm still paranoid I would say something egregious and then blurt out my name, LSAC #, and SSN in rapid succession.

I'm an EDer who hasn't heard, so at least one.

I am another EDer who hasn't heard, and I think there are still plenty who have not heard back. Last year there were EDers being accepted as late as 12/21 on LSN, so I don't think EDers should be worrying for at least a couple of weeks.

Yeah I mean I don't know definitively that NYU's numbers are down. But I think there are at least a few top schools who have been behind this year vs. last year with decisions. I agree with an earlier poster this might make sense though; it may be more difficult in that they have to do more deliberating on how to keep medians up/how far to let them slide, etc., and waiting for more applicants could help this..
