Did people report getting in off the WL last year?

I finally got my confirmation after telling them I wanted to remain on the WL more than a week ago. They really need to work on their computer system. That said, looking forward to waiting it out till the bitter end.

nyu ain't getting a loci from me. Went there undergrad, know what they're all about, just morbidly curious if they'll let me in off the waitlist.
then again, my numbers are sub par, no clue how I didn't get rejected. Anyone know when nyu has historically started letting people in off the waitlist?

well it's not a good sign, but yes it might mean nothing at all. It's possible they are only just looking at WL people again starting today

but a lot of schools aim to get WL commits ASAP since the longer you wait, the more likely you won't get them. Granted, NYU is prestigious enough they might not have to worry about this, but they still are competing with other T10 schools over some waitlisted candidates

looked on LSN. Only two reported instances of people getting in off the waitlist over the past 3 years. One URM (148 2.9), and one with amazing numbers (177 3.97)

Status checker changed to ACW 5/4 (applicant confirmed on waitlist [YAY! I get to create the abbreviation because I'm first 8) ])

Anyone care to speculate as to the size of the wait list?

Since this thread is so sleepy, I'd like to guess it is very small, and the few of us reading here will all be offered admissions - with full rides. And free massages during finals. Along with purple-robed unicorns to help us get around NYC.

other good signs: lsn has just shown a healthy amount of accepted withrdrawns, harvard and chicago waitlist seem to be taking and total applicants on lsn is down by about 2 pages (like 160 some kids) this year as opposed to 2010, reflecting the like over 1000 total applicant drop that it seems like occurred. maybe as soon as the trickle down from kids switching over to harvard, columbia, chicago etc happens, nyu will take some kids mid may.

i want to call and ask if/when they foresee using the waitlist this year but, sadly, I fear bothering them.

I count 74 WLs on LSN. 25 indicate that they withdrew. 49 still look active.

I will guess that the number of admitted students on LSN represents 1/3 of all admitted students. I will also guess that this shows that 1/3 of students applying to NYU report what happens to LSN. If true, this would mean that the 49 active WL students are 1/3 of the active WL, which means the wait list is about 150 students.

Put down deposit at Cornell but waiting on NYU... talked with some other Cornell '14 students a few days ago and none I talked with who applied got an NYU waitlist even if they were put on reserve at Columbia etc. So I am thinking the list is small, or at least, relatively small.

For those who are out of school/ don't have any transcripts to update, did you guys send in anything besides a LOCI? like.. an extra essay? Or Rec? Or anything?

I think at this point, the only things that can help you are factors like URM status. LOCI's and etc. probably can't do much, but they won't hurt.

This logic only holds if LSN is a representative sample. And it isn't.

I'm considering sending an extra LOR, but it's not academic and NYU seems to not care about such things. I could theoretically get an extra academic LOR but at this point it wouldn't get to them for at least a month and that seems pointless. So... maybe just a LOCI.

I think this is right.

an earlier poster asked if there was anyone else with cornell but on waitlist for NYU. Well i'm one. same with a waitlist for chicago, michigan, penn, northwestern, notre dame...that i can remember. weirdly ucla and cornell accepted me but those schools put me on the waitlist didn't get real decisions from any of them yet.

I was just saying when I think there will be movement. I dont really know why. When I googled nyu law waitlist, there was an old thread from 2008 where some kids got in starting on the 14th of May. Maybe this will be us.

Yeah, I'm heading to Cornell this fall barring any NYU/Chi/Mich WL action.
