I moved from held to the HLS waitlist on 21 April. I've got a mid 170s LSAT, A- grad school GPA, work experience. I thought it might get me in outright, but now it's looking like the waitlist offers maybe a 10, 20 percent chance at getting in?

No drop-off date for me. I'll stay on through September.

Given the LSN data from last year, it looks like there's less than a 10% chance of getting in off the wait list if you are not URM. The good news is that most of those who do get accepted off the wait list, get in by the end of May.

That's as meaningless as saying you have 0,25% chance of having a 4.00 GPA (1/400). Your individual chance depends entirely on your numbers.

At this point lower numbers are more likely to get in than higher numbers.

Look at LSN. At this point the schools have already set their 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles, so the people who get in at this point are the people they want. What that means is that those of you who have something more than numbers to offer are still here for a reason. They like something about your application. Lower numbers are more likely to get the admit now. They keep us higher numbers as a safety net.

Seriously, look at last years WL/in group. All URM and lower scores.

I am guessing that would depend on the numbers of applicants "lost" to other schools. If a significant group with high numbers chose Yale over Harvard (not unlikely), Harvard might take another look at the applicants with high numbers.

Hence the safety net comment.

Good to see you here again (after SLS).
Looks like there is still a chance (well, maybe small chance but it's non-zero) that we can be classmates. Please shower us with your witty comments as you did before! And of course good luck, man!

Any guesses on the size of this WL?
Just based on rough extrapolation of applicants on LSN yearly vs actual number of applicants yearly and giving some credence to the idea of TLS being a higher end sampling, I'd put the over/under at 300, and my cash would be on the over.

thats pretty horrifying. that puts the chance of getting in off the WL around the same 5 percent chance as at stanford and yale..

EDIT: nvm i lied; it's considerably higher; based on your estimate last year about 15 were WL-accepted out of about 90 WLs, which means 1/6 out of all LSN waitlists were accepted.. which is 16 percent.. which means about 50 people getting off the waitlist total, out of 300.

Technically, we don't have the same odds, so the 5% chance is misleading.

wait, if harvard has around 6000 applicants each year, and about 600 of them are on LSN, and 90 people on LSN are currently waitlisted... that would mean if LSN does NOT skew towards way better applicants, there are 900 people on the waitlist. dear god. let's hope everyone not on LSN is a 150/2.5 applicant.
