WUSTL (sticker) vs. Chicago Kent (fulll ride for 1L) vs. etc

Postby kimheami » Wed Apr 13, 2011 11:42 pm

All four schools are located in very different parts of the country but besides that I would really appreciate everyone's opinion on what you think is the better choice, whether it be due to job prospects, curriculum, law school environment, transfer prospects, etc.
I would also appreciate if you could comment why you chose what you did.
Thanks!!!

Where do you want to work? What would be the total amount of money you would need to pay in loans at these schools?

Honestly I am not totally sold on where I would like to work. Preferably in Chicago, NYC, or DC.
And the total amount in loans would obviously be the least at Chicago-Kent at around $80,000, and WUSTL and Brooklyn being the most with over $150,000.

so the votes so far would suggest that brooklyn and loyola should be dropped from the picture. I have only been able to visit WUSTL and Chicago-Kent. Although I am quite familiar with LA and have visited NYC on numerous occasions. Does anyone have anything specific that they could share about possibly about these campuses? One reason that I do not look so favorably on Loyola is that I am not so thrilled that I would have to drive in LA and also that I don't really want to live there the rest of my life.

The fact that nobody ever mentions the stipulation at Loyola makes me question the amounts people list in any choosing topic.

Oh sorry i guess i didn't list the requirements for the scholarships but I am hopeful, as is most people who accept scholarships, that I will have a high enough gpa/cr to maintain my scholarships.
But i guess i didn't want that to be considered for the poll.
But thanks for bringing that up.

In case you were curious though, Loyola requires me to be in the top 30% while Chicago-Kent requires me to maintain a 3.25 gpa or better.
I know the stipulation is a bit tough but that's what they offer so i'm gonna have to take it.

In that case I change my vote to WUSTL at sticker.

LOL transfer prospects.

None of those schools are a solid financial decision. Stips are bad news. WUSTL at sticker is bad news.

Retake and get some money at a school you'd be happy to graduate from or just don't go.

waiting another year and retaking is not an option.
And who said that i wouldn't be happy to graduate from these schools.
I asked your opinion on the schools that i listed, not for you to tell me that i shouldn't go to law school.

Why not? Have you taken the LSAT 3 times already? Is someone holding a gun to your head?

You won't be happy if you have 150k+ debt and a job that pays you 40-50k/year and that is the most likely outcome for all of these schools.

We're not necessarily saying don't go at all. We're saying that you should take a reasonable amount of debt for the job prospects that these schools provide. Since the vast majority of kids at all these schools are making 40-50k, taking out more than 100k would be insane. While the scholarships help, the problem with something like the Loyola scholarship is that you have a 70% chance of losing it. Meaning the most likely scenario is that you will be paying full tuition during 2L and 3L.

The credited advice is to either get your debt down to a reasonable level (100k or less) with stipulations that are no worse than top 50% (preferably no stipulations). Either that or go to a school that can justify taking out 150-200k worth of debt (something like the T12 or so). To do this, you need retake/reapply.
