Seat deposit extension for financial aid

So I got an email yesterday from the financial aid division of a school where I have been accepted basically saying that they have all of their $$ tied up but that I'm on a priority list for scholarship consideration and they expect to have money freed up after the April 1 deadline. Is it reasonable to send a polite email back (it was sent from the email of the Associate Dean who is in charge of financial aid) requesting an extension? I have not put in a deposit anywhere else and the ability of this school to give some $$ will really affect my decision on whether or not to attend. I'm also a little worried that if I commit to the school they'll have less incentive to give out money should any come available after April 1.

Bump. I'm wondering about this as well. Also how common it is to put down two seat deposits.

Pretty sure you can get in big trouble for doing this. A lot of schools (from what I've heard from friends/here) have their commitment letters phrased in such a way that pretty much forbids it.

my faincees brother did this. her folks told me to do it which automatically made me think it wasn't immoral. they are like the waltons.

what am I suppose to do--applied to 23 schools in early December and still haven't heard from 7 of them.

I believe you can put down multiple deposits first-round. After the 2nd deposits, LSAC will release information to the schools if you have put a deposit down at more than one place.

This situation happened to me as well. After I received my acceptance letter, I emailed the admissions office to let them know that I was still interested in the school despite not receiving a scholarship and would like to remain on its list of potential scholarship receivers. The admissions office automatically extended my seat deposit date after it received my email; I did not have to ask.

I think more like The Waltons, like "goodnight John-boy."

They have moral supremacy.

For those interested: Since this thread was started I've sent an email and received a positive response. Guess it really isn't that hard
