Scholarship Offer - Did I read this right? Help!

Post by SirWilliam1022 » Thu Mar 24, 2011 9:55 pm

GULC - "Congratulations! I am delighted to contact you with good news. Because of your outstanding academic achievements in combination with your financial need, you have been selected from the entering class of 2011 to receive a Law Center Scholarship award. This scholarship is in combination with any need-based grants you may receive or have received from Georgetown, and is for $45000.00 total for each of three years of study here at the Law Center. "

DID I READ THIS RIGHT? THIS SAYS $45,000 EACH YEAR (TOTAL OF $135,000)... RIGHT?

It really reads "45000.00 total for each of the three years?"

That is odd wording. usually they tell you the total award and that is spread out over three years. Writing 45K total seems to conflict with each.

Also, I thought it was fairly common for the awards during your first two years to be more than for your third year.

I hope they did give you 135K, but double check the wording and call them tomorrow. Please update cuz I am totally curious now.

Edit: i only received awards from three schools last year and none of them were G-Town.The three I did receive awards from all gave me a total amount and then fractionally allocated that amount to the three years. For example, I received one award of 62500. That was 25K for first year. 25K for the second year. then 12500 for the third year.

Total because it's a combination need and merit.

Just found out a few minutes ago, financial aid is closed, and the MyAccess page I forgot the password... so freaking out in excitement, but wondering what to tell family. Thanks

Also it's not "common"for scholarships to be more for the first two years than the third.

Really? like I said, I thought it was because I received three award letters and they all had that pattern. I obviously have no idea what happens at other schools. I wonder if we could gather this info up, maybe it would be useful to some.

I got one for $20K. First year 10, the last two 5 each. Just throwing that out there.

About 20% of my offers are just this. I'd say that's not statistically insignificant.
