Anyone just receive the Wait List update email? Sounds as if they're not overenrolled at this point.

Got it. Didn't sound too reassuring, though.

Agreed....not sure if they sent it out to inform us or torture us...

Really? I thought it was pretty reassuring.

"Our best guess is that spaces will become available occasionally during the coming weeks, and we will act to fill them very quickly once they occur."

"If you are serious about accepting an offer of admission to Vanderbilt, we ask that you continue to keep us informed of your interest going forward. Because we will require a quick response, you might wish to ready the questions you would have should you receive an offer of admission."

"Although there are many uncertainties, keeping plans for the fall flexible and remaining open to the possibility of a spot becoming available helps to create the best circumstances for this to occur."

I don't know what you're expecting from a waitlist, but this seems to me like a best-case scenario (precluding an offer of admission).

I thought it sucked because it means they've made offers to people other than me.

I did not get an email. Full text of the email?

EDIT: Actually, I got a call and I'm accepted with money. Now got a short time to make a big decision. Wow. Admissions staff, if you're reading this you probably know who I am now (haha...) but thanks!

I got a strange email telling me that, while the admissions office expected to take some people off the WL over the next month, since I had not indicated my interest they would not be considering my application. I'm pretty sure I sent the form back. Maybe since I hadn't sent any LOCI since then they just assumed...?

Did it look something like this?

A small number of spaces have become available in our entering class, and experience suggests that more spaces might become available over the summer. To fill spaces that become available, we will consider wait-listed applicants who have expressed interest in consideration for admission from the wait list. Our records do not indicate that you have expressed an interest, and as a result, your application will not be considered.

If you would like your application considered, please reply to this message promptly to let us know of your continuing interest in admission to Vanderbilt.

If we receive no reply to this message, we must presume that you are not interested in further consideration.

I got this email yesterday, even though I just got the waitlist offer in the mail on May 9th. I checked my status online that day and there had been no change, but looked after receiving the email and it showed the letter had been mailed on April 26. Most confusingly, the letter postmarked on May 4th. WEIRD! ... I'm not at all sure what the deal was/is.

I think you're right. Here's the email I received:

Over the last few days, we have offered admission to a small number of wait-listed applicants to fill spaces in the entering class. Based on past experience, we anticipate that more spaces will become available before orientation begins on August 15. Because vacancies occur only when admitted students who have paid deposits withdraw from the class, the number and timing of vacancies are unknown until they occur. Our best guess is that spaces will become available occasionally during the coming weeks, and we will act to fill them very quickly once they occur.

If you are serious about accepting an offer of admission to Vanderbilt, we ask that you continue to keep us informed of your interest going forward. Because we will require a quick response, you might wish to ready the questions you would have should you receive an offer of admission. You might also consider whether there is a date after which you could no longer realistically accept an offer from us in light of other commitments you have made or will make as the summer progresses. We will be glad to hear from you with updates about your circumstances or just to check in, and we will share any new information we have that might be helpful to you. We keep close track of these contacts with our office, and they can play a helpful role when we must fill vacancies quickly.

In a typical admission season, some wait-list candidates receive offers of admission in July or August and join the first-year class at Vanderbilt. Although there are many uncertainties, keeping plans for the fall flexible and remaining open to the possibility of a spot becoming available helps to create the best circumstances for this to occur.

We appreciate your interest in Vanderbilt and your patience with the wait list process. We look forward to hearing from you.

This is the one I got. I replied that I was still interested in being considered and got pretty much an auto-reply saying thanks for the update. Sigh.

Yea. Same here bigjinjapan. I'm beginning to wonder if they even read this things or if they just check out the subject heading and hit auto-reply.... Oh well. I guess every office isn't as friendly to WLers as U Michigan's.

I think Vandy is really going after anyone 169+ or 3.8+ this year with less regard to the other half of the LSAT/GPA combo. I think they just want to make sure >50% of the class is >=169, and same thing with 3.8.

I got the vibe they were bitter about USNWR rankings on my visit. Despite me telling them I wasn't concerned about the rankings and I knew Vandy would provide the opportunities I'm looking for they continued to tell me they were just as good as everyone else, then they put me on the WL.

Not sure about this, since a lot of splitters got consigned to WL hell early in the cycle (I got mine 1/17). It's possible their priorities have changed since then, especially since the new USNWR rankings came out. If so maybe they'll be dipping into the WL pool a bit more aggressively?

Didn't Vandy move up one spot in the rankings? They're 16 this year, and I think they were 17 last year.

Yes but they feel they are just as good as T14 but don't get the same respect. Again, no one said that to me, but that was the vibe I was getting.

I agree, I do think they are just as good as the lower T14. I'm just bitter they don't think I'm good enough.

The LSN stats are pretty shocking, especially looking at the number of Attendings vs. Withdrawals. Granted it's a pretty small sample of the applicant pool, but if it's at all representative it's possible they'll be taking quite a few people off the WL.

Also, in the rankings Vandy technically went up to 16, but it's still 17th on the list. Maybe they expected more movement?
