It sort of sounds like they sent it to everyone with a 170+
Is that what it took to be in the spwl?
No. I didn't get spwl, but I did get the email.

I could be totally wrong, but out of the FT applicants who have said they received the email, I think everyone who has their LSAT on their profile or in previous posts has a 170+. That's not to say all 170+ ppl received it, and it is also based on a small sample...

And no, looks like GULC has thrown out the original lists. I know SPWL ppl who were <170 who did not get the email. I'm PWL and did not get it, and could not be more depressed about it.

I wonder if LOCIs, etc., had anything to do with it? As in, perhaps some who did not receive this email are in fact in the small pool at which they are currently looking, but they didn't get the email because GULC already knew that person was very interested? Just more (useless?) speculating...

If it helps at all I'm a SPWL, sub-170, sent an LOCI and two emails expressing interest, and I haven't received the "small pool" email at all.

I don't mean to get anyone's hopes up or crush those of others, but...

Last year, a similar email went out to a smaller group, while a less-hopefull email went out to others. The smaller group had their status checker updated during the next week and the "hint" email came right after.

Im still confused in that it seems that there were two different groups, two emails: one last thursday and one yesterday. Yesterdays said there would be a review today, thursdays did not. Are we assuming all of these recent emails are the same?

FWIW, 171, spwl, 1 LOCI as well as two positive responses to "hey just curious are you still interested" emails, got the email from last Thursday but haven't heard since.

So after receiving the waitlist email I stopped looking at the status checker, but mine curently says
Current Status: Application Completed
Current Status Date: 2/28/2011
Does anyone have one where it actually says waitlisted? This probably doesn't mean anything but I have nothing to do at work which lets my paranoid mind wander...

They should just make those with LSAT 170+special preferred waitlist if that is what they are looking for. It doesn't make sense to have special preferred and preferred waitlists if they aren't going to draw from them first!

The P and SP just seemed like a lot of bullshit to me from the start. Based on past cycles it is pretty clear that the differentiation isn't meaningful.

I see that, but what would be the point in making the distinction if there is no difference? It must have been significant at least at some point.

It probably means something to them and helps them differentiate waitlist apps when they need to start reviewing them. They probably tell the P and SP that they are P and SP to keep them interested in the school. This is all conjecture, but since the percentage of kids who get off of the regular WL and the P WL are about the same, it never made sense to base it off your odds. Plus there are probably splitters and reverse splitters on both. If they need a splitter, they are going to take one off the regular WL before they take a reverse splitter off the SPWL.

Well then I have no idea, maybe they're just flipping coins

Curious: now that we've gotten emails from different people, who are you addressing in your LOCI's?

I just address them to Andy Cornblatt, the dean of admissions. All mine I believe have been directly from him.

Sub 170, URM, PWL, email Monday. I've stayed in contact, had two new recs sent and had three alums contact them on my behalf. Really want it and will probably send additional info later this week.

Dude, I hear you. My apps went in 2/16. I've debated re-applying for two months now.
