I'd prefer to join a "soft rejected at UVa" thread.

Re: Waitlisted at UVa
That's not necessarily true though. In their wait list email, UVA emphasized that they will be making more use of their wait list this cycle than they have in the past. Plus, if apps are down, schools may need to go to the wait list regardless.

That is what they said last year. They deferred a ton of people, and the econ. is still down- i don't think aps are down. keep sending loci and be in touch but don't expect anything.bender18 wrote:That's not necessarily true though. Re: Waitlisted at UVa
I tend to agree with you on your first point. The email seems like what they would always say, plus they seem to be well known for waitlisting. However, I am pretty sure the stats have been pretty clear that apps actually ARE down this year.uvahooo wrote:That is what they said last year. Apps are down, see the threads in the admissions forum.
That said, didn't UVA over enroll last year and offer a whole bunch of people $$$ to defer to this year? I think so. If so, this cycle will likely be just as competitive as the last one.

Checking in. UVA started as my #1 but didn't see fit to let me in RD. Umich here I come and at 60k cheaper to boot.
If UVA wants to let me in and match $ I would love to give them a second chance.

I'm in.
The whole 'we're planning on actively using the waitlist' thing stinks, to me. I'm sure they write that every year. And even if apps are down--which a lot of people seem to be saying--I doubt it's enough to make a real difference.
BTW - does anybody have a feel for IS/OOS WL stats? I'm out, FWIW.

Re: Waitlisted at UVa
If this is the case, do you think they could possibly overcompensate this year by issuing less initial acceptances? Yes that means more people dinged or put on the WL, but that could be one way they intend to utilize the WL (if they actually are trying to do that).bender18 wrote:Haha nevermind then. Funny how this thread died out in Feb... maybe people already knew that this would be waste of time and didnt even bother caring

Is it already assumed Virginia will be taking from the WL this year?
And if so, anyone have any thoughts on when this will happen - sometime next week?

I doubt I'd go if UVa called at this point, but I'd love to know when other people are starting to hear.

Re: Waitlisted at UVa
Deposit deadline was today so hopefully there will some updates soon. Just looking at the LSN data though they really didn't accept many people and rejected a bunch, so hopefully...? Apps are down and they had quite a few accepteds withdraw, but this whole deferral from last year issue kind of throws a kink in things.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
