UIUC full ride vs. Northwestern full sticker
Pros and cons would be helpful. I want to practice corporate/securities in NY, Boston or DC.

Re: UIUC full ride vs. Northwestern full sticker
i voted - UIUC dean talks about how well the place in chicago - not sure they can compete with a T-14 outside of that market, but what do i know. *shrug*. Might want to put this post into the Decision section of the forum though...

I voted NU, since you want to work in a big city outside of Illinois. I don't think UIUC would give you much chance of doing that....not nearly as much as NU anyway.

Re: UIUC full ride vs. Northwestern full sticker
Since you want Boston/DC/NYC, probably NU.
DC: Going to be tough as shit coming from NU but likely nigh impossible out of Illinois.
Boston: Probably impossible out of either without ties, so if ties then I'd say NU gives you the edge here.
NYC: Better chance out of NU but still possible if you do well at Illinois.
Illinois is most likely going to relegate you to the midwest unless you do really well and then NYC opens up. Since you don't want the midwest this seems like an easy call for NU.

Tough decision. But congrats on the acceptances.
Given your aspirations though, I'm inclined to say Northwestern. The question now becomes, what if you change your mind in Law School? Then you'll be stuck somewhat.

Re: UIUC full ride vs. Northwestern full sticker
If you want national placement prospects, only one of those two schools offers this. Choose that school. Also, UIUC full-ride might be valuable enough to squeeze some sort of (read: very small) scholarship from Northwestern. At the very least, you could ask with a straight face.

Why are these your choices if you want to work in DC/NYC/Boston? What about Cornell/GULC/Fordham/GW/BC/BU...even Duke or MVP?

I just realized OP has a 176/3.7. The correct answer here is go to CCN.ndirish2010 wrote:Why are these your choices if you want to work in DC/NYC/Boston? What about Cornell/GULC/Fordham/GW/BC/BU...even Duke or MVP?

Northwestern is one among a few law schools worth sticker price, in my opinion, due to their placement. And NU is in a different league than Illinois.

If you wanted to work in Chicago, UIUC might be in the debate here. But since you want to work outside of Illinois, NU x 100.

I don't think NU has released scholly info yet and I think you have to do additional essays to qualify for it at all.paulinaporizkova wrote:daaaang. and NU is still making you pay sticker?

Believe it or not, waitlisted at Columbia, and pending at NYU and Chicago (late apps). NU was my favorite school so far, and all the other schools that gave me scholarships were ranked lower than UIUC.

Yes, for some reason. Though they said I can apply for a mixed merit/need scholarship later. We'll see how that goes.

Didn't apply, but I don't know if their scholarships would be so great, if I got any.

To be honest, that seems like a poor choice considering you want NYC/Boston/DC unless you were assuming you would get at least one of CCN.Verity wrote:Didn't apply, but I don't know if their scholarships would be so great, if I got any.
At sticker I would definitely take any of MVP over NU for places other than Chicago.

And MVP over full ride at UIUC?

Still yes because you don't want to work in Chicago or Illinois that much.Verity wrote:bk187 wrote:To be honest, that seems like a poor choice considering you want NYC/Boston/DC unless you were assuming you would get at least one of CCN.Verity wrote:Didn't apply, but I don't know if their scholarships would be so great, if I got any.

Wow, UIUC is that bad in DC, NY and Boston (which seems generally tough to crack)?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
