What are all your reasons for applying "late" in the cycle?
I retook LSAT in dec and had to wait on a LOR.

I haven't even applied yet. Finishing my PS now, will send out by Friday night to some schools with a 2/1 deadline.champsound wrote:What are all your reasons for applying "late" in the cycle?

Dumbest move ever, just felt so lazy after I graduated and didn't feel like thinking.

Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
I was waiting on a letter writer. After agreeing upon a date, she ignored my increasingly panicked email reminders and completed my letter a month and a half late. And she ended up writing it in one afternoon after I contacted her relative in the same department to plead for his help. I think I got a few grey hairs from that experience...champsound wrote:What are all your reasons for applying "late" in the cycle?

Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
Good idea for a thread. Before reading this, I felt like everyone else on this forum had submitted their complete applications many months ago!
I applied to most of my schools in November, after taking the October LSAT, but told the schools to wait for results of the December LSAT. So far, I have heard back from 2 out of the 9 schools I applied to (both acceptances):
These schools received the bulk of my application in November, after my first LSAT (I think the submit date was 11/13):
- Drexel: Complete 1/7, Accepted 1/12
- Pitt: Complete 1/7, Accepted 1/18
- Temple: Complete 1/7
- Villanova: Complete 1/12
- American: Complete 1/14
I applied to these schools in the next tier up after getting back my December LSAT and improving by four points:
- GW: Submitted 1/9; Complete 1/19
- William and Mary: Submitted 1/13; Complete 1/21
- BC: Submited 1/9, "Application being reviewd" 1/25
- BU: Submitted 1/18, App received 1/19 (not complete yet, as far as I can tell)

Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
I submitted half of my apps late (January 14th). The other half went out in early October but I put on hold pending December retake:
IUB: Received 1/17
Santa Clara: Received 1/18
Hastings: Complete 1/18
Temple: Complete 1/21
GULC: Complete 1/18, complete 1/21
So far only got 2 acceptances (SJU and GW) from the earlier lot and one hold (Miami ). Hopefully more good news rolls in here soon

3.4 167. Went complete at GW 3 weeks ago an got in yesterday. Here's hoping that's a good sign for the rest of the cycle. Oh also URM. Top choices still waiting on are USC (IR 1/19, 1/26), Berkeley (IR 1/3), WUSTL (complete 1/7), Cornell (processing, from Cornell undergrad but don't think it helps), Minnesota (IR 1/21), Michigan (status unknown), complete at BU, BC, UCLA, GULC, Texas, Vandy. With my stats I'll count my blessings. But GW is very expensive.cowgirl_bebop wrote:I submitted half of my apps late (January 14th). Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
2.44 167. Right now Im really hoping to hear good things from IUB, American, Fordham, Maryland, and Santa Clara. GULC is a super reach, but so was GW and somehow I got in, so maybe there's a little more magic left in my cycle I applied both PT and FT, so if I get either one of those I'll be ecstatic.PomasThynchon wrote:3.4 167. And yes, GW is VERY expensive, maybe prohibitively so for me. SJU offered me a full scholly, but it would kill me dead to have to go there instead of GW. We'll see if I get any money with my acceptance packet comes, but Im sure I just got in by the skin of my ass, so Im not holding my breath...

Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
I submitted my applications on New Year's Eve. I've been teaching this year, and between classes and lesson planning, and life I didn't have enough time to put together a decent PS, DS, and other addenda until winter break.
So far been accepted to OSU, W&L, and been WL at UIUC. Still waiting to hear back from 7 other schools, including Cornell, where I'm still "processing."

Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
I was waiting on my LSAT score to see if it was even worth applying to some places, hence the lateness. Most of my CAS reports went out on 1/17 and 1/18, though the apps themselves went in from 1/8 - 1/12. So far I am complete at most schools, haven't heard boo from Yale, haven't been updated at Michigan/Harvard/NYU/Cornell in a couple of weeks, and have gotten one decision back.
Reeeeally hoping my LSAT helps make up for my late-ish applications.

I'm pretty sure your 180 would make up for anything, including sending in a fecal sample as your personal statement.ljohns wrote:Reeeeally hoping my LSAT helps make up for my late-ish applications.

All of my apps have been put in late. Still a few more to submit. 3.80/171 how much do you think submitting them late will hurt? Applied to ten T14 and ten between 15 and 40.

Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
Submitted the first 2 weeks of January:
Northwestern: Complete 1/18
Duke: Complete 1/24
Virginia: Complete 1/27 pending review/decision
UIUC: Complete 1/24
Cornell: Processing 1/7
Colorado: nothing
UCLA: Complete 1/25
Reason for latenes: thousands of PS drafts and a delayed LOR.
I know I won't hear anything until March...why do I still check for status updates 3-100 times/day!?!?

Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
I just returned from puerto rico and I didn't check my status checkers at all the whole time or my email account that decisions go to. I didn't think about law school for 11 glorious days so now back to reality. I have a lot to report those last 11 days have been super busy. I'm actually at the airport now writing this so I'll fill you guys in on the details (like cash and dates when i get back to Chicago, if I ever get back to Chicago)
But I came back and the first thing I saw was a congrats from Kansas followed by one from Hastings so at least I got Cali then I saw my duke priority track my first t-14 decision...... and waitlisted I was crushed. then I look on my LSN account and see an idiot who said I wasn't going to get into a t-14 school and I was thinking he was right. That was followed up by an Iowa acceptance and a Georgia acceptance. Two very good regional schools and I was happy to be in the mid 20's area. But then things got interesting. There was a Freshlaw invite. Hmmm. I clicked on it it was a congrats from the University of Texas!!!! Now we're talking . My first top 15 acceptance. I'm not going to lie I was getting worried for a little bit. But the email reading wasn't finished I had one more to click on. It said UC Berkeley and before I could read anything else I saw the words congratulation. Top 10 finally . Of all the top ten (sans the holy trinity) Berkely was my top choice. Still have to check out cash from other schools but I'm really feeling Berkeley can't wait for ASW. Hmmm still snowing in Chicago. Berkeley seems even better .

I belong in this thread. A couple auto-admits and a couple waitlists so far. Nothing to write home about.

Re: I Applied Late in December/Early January to all my schools.
Also had to wait for my December LSAT. I did, however, send in most of my apps by early to mid-December, and they just held my app. Not sure how big of a difference it makes as far as turnaround, though.champsound wrote:What are all your reasons for applying "late" in the cycle?

In at most of my safeties:
UC Hastings
SMU
Loyola
U of Houston
Waiting on 10 more.
