I'm wondering if in my final paragraph, where I mention that I want to move back to Boston because that's where my family is, it would be a bad idea to also mentioned that I love the Red Sox and am tired of living among Yankee fans. I'm not sure if that kind of levity would make me look frivolous or if it might be welcome. Any thoughts? I recognize that it's probably futile but I don't want to feel like I didn't try. Thanks.

I think it would be ok as long as the rest of your letter is substantive. Wouldn't want to give them the impression that baseball is your over-riding concern.

I would be curious to know how many people mention that sort of thing, because I can't imagine it is especially original to do so. I would worry about looking cheeky at best and corny at worst.

I think that having elements of the letter that demonstrate your own voice in a creative way are great (at least so says the pre law counselor at my college.) As others said, if your letter generally has substance, an honest touch can't really hurt you.

p.s. yankees suck.

Should I even bother with a LOCI? I was held on 01/10, haven't sent them a fall transcript or a LOCI yet. Honestly, I didn't think I had much of a chance. I still think that, but I regret not putting in this bare minimal effort, so is it worth or have they already gotten ready to reject me because I waited so long to reply?

So I was thinking guys. I need you ALL to take one for the team (Me, of course) and withdraw your apps so I might get a seat in the upcoming class. Just a thought, tell me what you think

if you accept a scholaship you only have to withdraw form schools you have already ehard back frmo...so you wouldn't have to withdraw if you are on hold somewhere....

This makes it sound like you can accept the scholarship without withdrawing from schools you've heard back from too. Am I reading it wrong??

Also read this one. 2nd paragraph. That Statement of Good Practices is not enforced.

Let me ask you this then:

Dean Z said that beginning May 15th, schools have access to where you still have deposits to.

Do the schools get to see where you haven't withdrawn as well---If they can, then they would withdraw their offer ...right?

With like 25% of its applicant pool on hold, I wonder if HLS plans to ding/WL everyone soon.

For those desperately grasping at every sliver of good news (I've been there): I withdrew my application today.

Less competition for you :).

I can't believe
1. How many people are on hold
2. That they are still shifting people to the hold pile.

I really would love to know their thought process. I'm sure it makes sense, whatever it is -- but come on!

At least if they are still holding people, it's some indication that there will be seats available and there will be JR1s going out.

is it crazy that i kind of envy those gettting holds now? the way i see it, they've been considered within the context of the entire applicant pool and are still considered competitive - whereas those of us who looked interesting enough to hold back in early january might not look so interesting now that all the files have been read...
