Hey another 'held at Harvard' here. I'm thinking of taking the February LSAT, does anyone think that'd help?

Right now my LSAT is just below their 25th percentile and my GPA is close to their 75th. I figure that since I've already been accepted to a few schools I'd be happy attending, there's no harm in re-taking and seeing if my score goes up. If I do terrible on it, then other schools can't retract their offer (I hope). Whereas if I up my score, then my chances increase at Harvard.

Also, scores wouldn't come out until March and that's pretty late... I have a feeling that would hurt me more than just holding out hope.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I was thinking about the same thing, except that I am still holding out hope for YS, so I don't know if a new registration would damage my already slim chances there. Maybe I should hope for a WL and take the June test?

Well, I have updated them with a new LOR, a transcript update, and a fedexed LOCI. Let's hope this nudges them along...

Also, I think the June LSAT may be too late to nudge them...but what do I really know?

I am not going to risk Stanford by signing up for the Feb LSAT. If June is too late June is too late.

A new LSAT probably would have made several of my decisions easier. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee mine would really go up. Plus, I never want to go through studying for the LSAT again. Alas...

How long are LOCI's generally? I was thinking one page specifically talking about the resources at Harvard could benefit my interest stated in my personal statement as well as new developments in my interests that I gained over the last semester.

I think there's an LOCI thread on here somewhere. I don't remember what it's under, but I'm looking for it too haha.

This just posted in the Harvard thread:

Squishy wrote:I sent in my app 10/12, it went complete 11/04.
Held 1/10.
Then I got scheduled for an interview 1/13, and I just had the interview 15 minutes ago. It lasted 4 min 53 seconds, and I talked much too fast.

176, 3.78.

How's my first tls post?

I'm sending in my LOCI today -- probably a futile effort, but hey at least I'm fighting the good fight, right?

For those who have sent in transcript updates, how long did it take from the time your school sent the transcript to the tme it updated on LSAC?

Suppose that I was selected as a finalist for the Fulbright... would it be a good idea to inform Harvard of this in the LOCI?

Or would they be like, "Well... you should just withdraw your application and apply again next year if you're not even going to attend in Fall 2011"? And then promptly send over a big fat rejection?

But what if you're dying to go to Harvard and, in an ideal world, would get admitted and defer to do research for a year on the Fulbright?

So is this a good thing or a liability? Or should I not even worry about it unless I get the actual grant?

I've heard from a lot of people who are considering deferring now, so I think it's fairly common esp for people fresh out of UG. I don't think it'll cause a rejection. It's also a really big honor that Harvard will probably not take lightly. That's completely speculation though. Also congrats!!!

After thinking about this for a bit, I don't see how getting such an honor would hurt your application this cycle. It is definitely an addition to your (already significant) softs, and I don't think any law school would flat out reject you because you have achieved something like this, and won't be part of the '14 class if they let you in (and you decide to take the fulbright if you get it and accept it)...

essentially-

Best Case-they are impressed by it, and it adds positively to your application

Worst Case -they are impressed by it, and think "he won't be coming to law school next year" and they set you in the waitlist pile (which is an upgrade over what seemed to be the fate over many of the holds in last year's thread)...

if you get it - you re-apply to schools in another later cycle, with more experiences, and have an relatively better application than you have now (simply because you have this further experience/can apply earlier with it)

Just got the hold e-mail. Applied 11/13, UR 11/22. 174/3.8x.

I guess I'll write up some kind of LoCI, but I'm not sure what to say other than "uh, you're Harvard."

maybe throw a few more h's in there to build some tension: "uhhhhhhh, you are Harvard." (avoid contractions).

Just got the hold email as well. Originally sent two LOR from my PhD advisers. Going to send another one from someone who I am currently working for, a chapter of my dissertation, and maybe go for a visit next week (I live in SoCal) to sit in a few seminars and write a LOCI after saying as much. Thoughts?
