"Thanks so much for my aid offer. I very much would like to attend Penn for reasons X, Y and Z. However, because of my strong commitment to entering public interest law, student debt is a huge issue for me. I just wanted to let you know about a scholarship offer I've received from Peer School X. Their offer letter is attached."

Am I missing any points?

Good luck today azn (And jpk)!!
Thanks!! Good luck to you too!! :)

Excellent! Just got a nice merit award just shy of $60,000 (PM for exact number), not bad for a T14 almost-strikeout.

Where's this financial aid email with a link in it that people keep talking about? My parents have a bazillion kids, so I should qualify for something! Do you get this email whether you are eligible or not?

How did you find out about the merit award without receiving the email?

Should I submit this directly to Penn, or should I ask Berkeley to match first since they are more of a traditional "rival"?

I received an award email, not a financial aid email. It has no links in it.

Congrats again, that's amazing. One thing to consider is that if you wait for Berkeley to match, it could cost valuable time while Penn gives money out. And from what I understand, there is far from a guarantee that Berkeley will match. Even though Penn wouldn't consider NU a complete peer, they're going to recognize that as an extremely attractive offer and probably feel obliged to increase their offer somewhat.

I don't think you have to do one or the other--just submit it to both ASAP. Time is money, in this case.

That's a good point. When I talked to Bayrex briefly at Penn's ASW, it sounded like they wanted to hear about any and all competing offers you got (as long as you were seriously considering them). So if you get matched by Berkeley down the road, you can tell Penn that and they might be able to adjust their offer further.

Berkeley won't match any offers from Northwestern, it's on their website.

So...did even those who didn't get need-based aid get an email with links in it?

I'm wondering why I got an award-only email. My parents have a close to a decade of kids.

Who do I submit to? Bayrex? Anthony Henry (I will definitly CC him at least because I met with him and we hit it off)?

Your email just hasn't gone out yet. Everyone gets an email, even if they didn't get any need-based aid. So you'll know one way or another.

I sent it to financial aid, but someone else said there's a scholarship email. I'm sending it to the other one too just to make sure, especially since I didn't get a confirmation.

The people with nothing seem to have pretty solid stats, and no one's announced getting the full Dean's yet. I think you all are going to be the big $ winners. :D

Apparently there's scholarships@law.upenn.edu. So I sent mine to that one and finaid. I feel like regardless of which one you send it to it should be forwarded to the right department. That would be super mean if they just let it sit there/deleted it just because it's the wrong email address.
