I have been offered a different full ride from DU and I will be withdrawing.ash8309 wrote:I'm curious if anyone has been offered it and is not taking it?fundamentallybroken wrote:A few people have. I love Denver. I thought the law building was top notch, but it just wasn't the right fit for me.

Probably sending mine next week. I really wish I could get back out there and look at denver and DU with my gf, since she may be making the move with me. I think I'm sold though.fundamentallybroken wrote:So:

Re: In at Denver...
I can agree with what you say, but for the most part, I am pleased with my responses from schools so far. Even if I got into high ranked schools, they'd be just as regional. At least I'm not really cut off from any of the regions I'd be interested in going. And accepting admission this round seems smarter than waiting another year, possibly scoring the same as before and attending the same schools, only with an extra year wasted.chrisbru wrote:I would definitely disagree with you there. But I wouldn't be disappointed in what you've been offered this cycle.crossarmant wrote: Well, I definitely had some extraneous circumstances. I had someone very important to me pass away pretty much every year and weathered the massacre at Virginia Tech. Luckily doing some work at University of Richmond after graduation and getting a 3.8 gpa helped out A LOT. I know I could've done better on my LSAT, but I'm pleased enough with it. I imagine with my GPA a 167 wouldn't do too terribly much more than a 160.
Which kind of brings me to the whole debate over minute ranking shifts for DU, everyone seems to be nit-picking on how it'd jumped up or down a few slots. Regardless of whether they're 77 or 65 or 89, it'd remain a pretty regional school. Which for anyone wanting to stay in Denver or CO seems like a good idea. From what it seems, they have a pretty big stranglehold on the city of Denver. So what if the number jumps up or down a bit, it's a Tier 2 which is solid enough and seems to do it's designated job of producing Colorado attorneys pretty well. To me, it seems that unless a school is jumping tiers or moving ~40 places, the minute shifts that USNWR makes means very little.

I agree, for the most part. I didn't see what you got at DU, but with my 2.9/171 I only got offered $20k, and $25k is the highest. If Denver is where you want to be, you did just fine.crossarmant wrote:

Prestige, nothing more. Honestly.

went and visited Tennessee and my SO and I both loved it. this is important because when we visited Colorado only I loved it.
If Tennessee gives me some money I may pass up the money at DU and head east.

So has anyone looked into housing around DU? I saw on their website that they have on-campus graduate apartments which seem like a good idea for the first year if you aren't from the area. I'm debating on doing that since it'd be close to the law school and you wouldn't have to stress about going out there, living in a hotel while finding accommodations since I'm from Virginia.

Re: In at Denver...
I just got back from visiting the campus. Trust me, there is plenty of off campus housing available around the school. You can get a place off campus within walking distance no problem.crossarmant wrote:So has anyone looked into housing around DU? Can you give me an idea of some of the apt. complexes that are within walking distance so I can do some shopping online before I go out to CO?irenic wrote:I just got back from visiting the campus. Re: In at Denver...
Just google apartments around DU or the university neighborhood in Denver. That's how I found a bunch of listings.crossarmant wrote:Can you give me an idea of some of the apt. complexes that are within walking distance so I can do some shopping online before I go out to CO?irenic wrote:I just got back from visiting the campus. Pulled off the waitlist into the evening division. I am retaking the LSAT but should I consider Denver? I don't know much about them.

I wasn't given any money to Denver until today, when I received an e-mail for 25K a year! I am shocked and confused, because I had all but declined my offer of admission.
Has this happened to anyone else? Receiving a late scholarship offer? I think it's a good sign for those who may be in a negotiating mood.

Wow that is great. My bet is that you are right at their new median goals for next yrs class. That puts you in an ideal spot for DU, or any other school that is looking for a 160/3.5 ish median. Congrats.Johnny5959 wrote:I wasn't given any money to Denver until today, when I received an e-mail for 25K a year! I am shocked and confused, because I had all but declined my offer of admission.

I haven't even gotten my letter/packet in them ail yet. So, I sent an email out trying to get some kind of money from them. I got in into Rutgers-Camden with $5k, which isn't much but on top of $21k in-state tuition is a lot; so I'm trying to leverage something out of them because I'd much rather be in Colorado than South f'ing Jersey.Johnny5959 wrote:I wasn't given any money to Denver until today, when I received an e-mail for 25K a year! Yeah, good luck. I had mentioned my other scholarship offers a few weeks ago, only to receive a disclaimer that they will resubmit it to the committee but it is very competitive. Looks like they've gotten more generous.
Now I have to decide between Case Western (where I paid a seat deposit) for 15K a year (they also resubmitted me to their "committee" OR Denver for 25K...
Any thoughts

If you want to live in the Mountain West, you now have a great option. What 12k a year for DU? That is a great deal.Johnny5959 wrote:Yeah, good luck. Best of luck, everyone! As crazy as it sounds, I've decided to turn down the Chancellor. I'll be heading to California instead, though I truly loved DU when I visited. Personal reasons and employment considerations outweighed what was a truly humbling and generous offer. Denver - the city and the school - is great. Hope everyone has a great time!
