I went complete on 11/18 and got a call on 12/3 with $16k/yr. Not quite sure if I'll seriously consider Nebraska. I'm out of state and I have better scholarship offers to better schools.

3.33, 159, Out of State.

The status checker says "Initial Review Complete" and "The admissions committee reviewed your application file and would like to view more of the applicant pool before rendering an admissions decision."

You'll get in, don't worry. I was 162/3.78 and got offered 16k/yr so I'm sure you'll get in. Don't sweat it. Perhaps they are really optimistic about increasing their class averages this year, but I honestly wouldn't sweat it.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, I'm just surprised. I've already been admitted to a top 50-ish school, but am from Iowa and would like to practice in the midwest. I figured Nebraska would be an easy bet since my LSAT was above the 75th percentile. Odd.

It is odd. It might be because your GPA is probably closer to the 25th, but LSAT means a lot more for their rankings than does GPA. Who knows.

Nebraska places more emphasis on GPA than some other schools.

The curve is average, but most people with scholarships keep them. They seem to be acting more generously this year than they have in the past though...partially because tuition is likely to take a nice hike next year.

Just got a call offering acceptance and $$. OOS, so I don't know if I'd seriously consider it, but the offer is nice. LSAT is kind of low (156), but the admissions guy told me that the dean loved my PS and major-- I really think that had a lot to do with it

Hey, if the money's good, not a bad school. Tuition is only like $26k for OOS, and cost of living is SUPER cheap in lincoln... like, $12k a year. That's a total cost of attendance around $115k WITHOUT any scholarships. There's no better deal in the top 100, unless you have instate somewhere... And even then, it's debatable. For me, Nebraska is nearly identical in price to Iowa (pre-scholarships), even though I'm in-state at Iowa.

The problem with Nebraska is they don't give full's to out of stater's as far as I know of.

That makes it really hard for top candidates staying in the midwest to pick them. I would rather pay full at Iowa / Minnesota than attend Nebraska at instate price.

The employment prospects are just a lot better for those other two schools. Plus, most people staying in Nebraska want a job in Omaha, and if that's true you are better off at Creighton since usually the Omaha clerkships go to them.

Also on this, I heard it's not about tuition taking a hike. I heard it's because they received all that money from stratcom for their space and telecom program, but they've dropped 20 slots in the rankings in the last few years. Supposedly they're attempting to stop the hemorrhaging and move up the rankings to the 70s/60s within the next 5-10 years. The school is a lot better academically than it is ranked in USNews, but the employment statistics will always plague it similar to UofIowa. They have rock stars like Ammori at the school, but I'll bet my money now that Ammori will end his academic teaching career at HYS/CCN.

Doesn't matter if you strike out with hiring solid young professors if you can't keep them on your roster after a few years.

I also just got waitlisted at Nebraska.. 3.51/ 154.

Does anyone know how likely it is to get off the waitlist? Should I write an LOCI?

I'd really like to attend.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
