I got approved for a stipend to visit March 3rd. For those of you coming from the west coast, how long/where do you plan on staying during your trip? It's a 6 hour flight each way, so you pretty much lose a whole day just traveling back and fourth. I'm thinking of flying in the day before and leaving a day or two after the event so I can also spend some time in the area getting a better feel for MI and also to look into housing (my parents are coming with me, and its probably the only trip they'll make out to MI so I thought we'll start seriously looking at places I'd want to live, etc as well.)

Law School Numbers lacks a lot of rejects as of now on Michigan State (I think there’s only 1). There are 114 applications, I counted and like 68 people posted their results all of which were accepts I’m guessing the rest got deferred as a large portion of the graph is missing. I have a funny feeling being deferred is not as good people make it out to be especially at Michigan State. I am guessing they make three piles Rejects based on numbers, Accepts (brief review of file based more on LSAT and GPA), and they push their borderlines to re-review in February (I am talking even close to borderline it looks like they defer you). Any thoughts? I am aware on like page 1 or 2 someone wrote that being deferred is good because they spoke with admissions at Michigan State. Anyone have more info? Also as a sidenote Michigan State's medians seem to drop just looking at LSN as the two graphs from the 2009-2010 to 2010-2011 are like night and day even including and accounting for the fact that more people applied in the latter of the two graphs

I'm coming from California for the March 19 event. My plan is taking a redeye flight on the Thursday before and using Friday to get a feel for the area. From what I've been looking at so far, it's cheaper to fly into Detroit than directly flying to Lansing.

I'm coming in for the March 2nd visit, and going to the basketball game the night before. If you stay in the Kellogg Center on campus you can get a good rate and you are right in the middle of campus. also i would recommend flying into Detroit and taking the Michigan Flyer shuttle if you are kind of strapped for cash. $50 bucks round trip from Detroit to East Lansing and it drops you a block from campus.

I haven't booked a flight yet but I think I'm going to fly into Grand Rapids, which is as close to East Lansing as Detroit but less expensive I think. I'll probably have to rent a car then and drive to East Lansing

Just checked and it says Re-Review in February. What's up with that? Good news or bad?

Depends. It means they like you enough to admit you but they wanna see if there are stronger applicants coming up. They're trying to push up in the rankings so they're throwing money at a ton of stronger people hoping they'll commit and apps have been up like 25% or something so in that sense this could be bad news. However, MSU is still a T3 and the increase in apps may not indicate stronger apps, just more, in which case it would be good news.

For those of you flying into DTW, look into the Michigan Flyer. It comes to East Lansing three or four times day from DTW and is reasonably priced from what I have heard. It will drop you off at the East Lansing Marriott which is pretty close to campus - it is probably a 10-15 minute walk to the law school from it.

Yeah thats what i'm doing on the 3rd. I'm also hoping to stay in the Kellogg Center on campus which they told me, they have a reduced rate for visiting law students.

I got it, wrote it in a few hours, and emailed it the same day. Got the acceptance maybe 10 days later.

Does anyone know if MSU negotiates scholarships at all?

My GPA was merely .0x from qualifying for the 100% scholarship and my LSAT is significantly over qualifying for it.

Anyone know a good place to stay on/near campus and the law school? I'm probably heading out there for the March 19th weekend. Hope to see some of you there!

Go to priceline and you can find hotels based on distance from MSU. I remember seeing a suite style place around 90 that looks pretty good. Otherwise you can stay at the place inside Kellogg on campus.

Everyone that has been requested to write the why MSU essay getting good money? I had to do it, and I am hoping for money. My LSAT seems to be shutting me out from full tuition and other high scholarships though.

Anyone here know how open MSU would be to negotiating a scholarship. I was awarded 25% and am very interested in MSU. My numbers are 3.1 and 163, and I have a better offer from DePaul. I would like to see if I could negotiate up to a 50% scholarship.
