Re: In at Harvard
I did! I thought it was weird and random (but nice, I guess, even though I won't be heading to HLS in the fall). Glad to know I'm not the only one.onebiglie wrote:anyone else receive a signed book in the mail from HLS recently?

Got Lessig's Remix. I mentioned him in the phone interview way back in December, so I guess JR was taking notes.

Got Negotiauctions. Wonder what it's based on? Maybe the survey thing they sent out? Or maybe it's a ploy to unmask the TLSers.

Re: In at Harvard
Hmm... who knows. i haven't said anything to indicate a particular interest in constitutional law, although it is an interest of mine. Oddly enough, I just finished reading a book called "Our Undemocratic Constitution" last night.. this book seems to take as its thesis the opposite of that book's thesis: namely, that our constitution contains many anachronistic rules that limit our ability to achieve the national ideals put forth in the preamble..
was everyone else's signed by the author as well? perhaps the faculty member in question looked at our file during the review process? does harvard do that?

Wow, Martha Minnow read your personal statement? That's awesome! will definitely be something to brag about if she ends up following Kagan to the SC.acrossthelake wrote:I got this. http://www.amazon.com/Browns-Wake-Legac ... 625&sr=1-1
The signed note references stuff I wrote about in my personal statement. It's a very nice personalized touch.

i got professor cavallaro's "no place to hide." seriously, such a nice gesture of them to send this! the topic/note seemed to directly relate to my jr1, which i think is amazing.

I also received Dean Minow's book with comments on my personal statement. It was extremely gracious and it makes me even more excited to be attending HLS in the fall!

Haha, mine just said "good job at *undergrad*". I did have a personal phone convo with the author though so that makes up for it. And I was planning on buying the book eventually anyway so it saved me some $$(Negotiauctions for anyone wondering.)eskimogirl wrote:i got professor cavallaro's "no place to hide." seriously, such a nice gesture of them to send this! the topic/note seemed to directly relate to my jr1, which i think is amazing.

I got a book by a prof I mentioned in my LOCI. I've read it already, but it's still a really nice touch.

Also got Negotiauctions. The note was brief, but it was still a nice thought and the book looks like it will be interesting. Thanks, HLS!

I got Scorpions by Noah Feldman. It's about FDR's Supreme Court, which is right up my alley. I am absolutely floored that they took the time to look into our interests and send us something we would enjoy. And that faculty took the time to write notes/sign each of the books. 10 points for Harvard.

Got Goldsmith's book. Already read it, but nice to have a signed copy now, even though I disagree with 75% of Goldsmith's recommendations for fighting the "War on Terror." Makes me sad I am not going to Harvard...
