Re: Southwestern 2011
Does anyone know if you put the full-time program as your first choice and one of the part-time programs as your second. Will they waitlist you for the full-time program, or will they just accept you into the part-time program?

Re: Southwestern 2011
It depends on your numbers. If your numbers are not good enough for full time but good enough for part time plus they like you, then yeah maybe. But if your numbers are average, and they have better candidates for the part time program they might just waitlist you entirely.
From what I learned, the students who list part time as 1st choice, always have the priority in that program, while people who list it second go to the bottom of the list for that.
Im getting anxious too, i haven't heard anything back yet. Good luck!

Hello all, I am currently a 1L here at Southwestern. This forum was very useful to me last year so I figured I would return the favor. If you have any question, feel free to ask.

How do you like Southwestern? I remember you from last year as I am reapplying to southwestern. When did you apply last year/get a decision?littlepiggie818 wrote:Hello all, I am currently a 1L here at Southwestern. Re: Southwestern 2011
I applied before Thanksgiving and heard back from them before Christmas, so it was a fairly quick process. It was the first school I actually heard from.RAB wrote:How do you like Southwestern? I love Southwestern, mainly because it has so many valuable resources and help is always available. They have the writing center which helps me edit my legal writing memo. There are TA/Dean's Fellow for every 1L courses who gave invaluable advices/tips. They are also very accommodating to the students' needs. Because I actually utilized these resources, I felt that they really helped me through the first semester.

I know you're a 1L, so won't have too much experience at all with the actual job hunting/prospects, but what's the mood like among 2Ls looking for summer employment and 3Ls getting ready for their last semester?littlepiggie818 wrote:Hello all, I am currently a 1L here at Southwestern. Also, how is first semester of 1L? Is there any insane pressure? What's the attrition rate look like so far?
Thanks!

Re: Southwestern 2011
I don't know that many 2Ls. I know of one 2L who is in SCALE and is graduating this summer, who has a job line up already. But from what he told me, plenty of his classmates are still looking for jobs. But that's the extent of my knowledge.swilson215 wrote:I know you're a 1L, so won't have too much experience at all with the actual job hunting/prospects, but what's the mood like among 2Ls looking for summer employment and 3Ls getting ready for their last semester?littlepiggie818 wrote:Hello all, I am currently a 1L here at Southwestern. I worked extremely hard during my first semester, but a lot of classmates didn't seem to take the same attitude. From classroom interactions, it seems to me that a lot didn't seem to care that much about their grades, but just work enough to be in good academic standing (which is a 2.33 requirement here). One of my TAs even told me of students who went up to him and ask him what they should do to get a C+ on the final. However, from talking with a lot of my classmates, they all seem very smart and capable. So I don't want to make any assumption on how competitive my classmates were, but I think the interaction differs from section to section. Everyone was generally mellow in my section.
So far, no one has dropped out yet. But not all of our grades have come in yet. My section is still waiting for two more classes.
The main thing everyone told me when I entered was, "Work hard. Don't follow 2Ls' advice of taking short cuts and using other people's outline. Make your own outline. Don't fall behind. And take practice exam." And I followed this advice. I will let you know how that works out once I receive all of my grades. But I am quite happy with the grades that I do have right now and I am glad I followed those advice.

The pressure wasn't as insane as I thought it would be. I was expecting to work an average of 60 hours a week, and I'm finding it's more like 50.Also, how is first semester of 1L? Is there any insane pressure? What's the attrition rate look like so far?
I've been very impressed by the caliber of students in my Section, and almost everyone seems to be taking his or her studies seriously, but I wouldn't say it's particularly cut-throat.

I submitted 9/22, went "Complete" 10/17, went "Complete and In Review" on 12/13 and I still haven't gotten a decision.
I've applied to all CA schools and finally heard back from one yesterday. Do all California schools work this slowly?

Wow, so it seems like they haven't put any decisions out. This pace, I'm not going to hear back until April.

I just searched on the Southwestern site and it stated that decisions will be going out early February.
I'm assuming the people who received admission already we're auto admits/rejections

It looks like I'm not the only one that thought this way. Except for my ED app (deferred to the regular pool), I have not heard from any in CAsanjola wrote:I submitted 9/22, went "Complete" 10/17, went "Complete and In Review" on 12/13 and I still haven't gotten a decision.

EDIT: My status checker updated to yesterday's date, but apparently something was sent out today. The thing is, under mailings, it's blank; just today's date.

Guys, has anybody received an invite to the Annual Diversity Day on 01/29? I've RSVP-ed online, but haven't received any confirmation yet. Also - is it free? I am asking because they are offering breakfast and lunch there.

It's definitely free. Last year, RSVP confirmations went out on the Tuesday before the event, so if you don't hear by Wednesday, it couldn't hurt to give the admissions office a call.LegallyPumpkin wrote:Guys, has anybody received an invite to the Annual Diversity Day on 01/29? Got the invite, too. Why do they do this to us!? Anyways, would love to go, but unfortunately flying across the country 3 weeks into the semester is a bit of a stretch...especially since I haven't been accepted yet!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
